The VC women's basketball team fought to the end, but ultimately fell 68-50 at Long Beach in the opening round of the 3C2A Southern California Regional Playoffs Wednesday. The No. 11-seeded Vikings used a decisive third-quarter surge to pull away from No. 22 Ventura. Kayla Lumas led all scorers with 20 points and Charnelle Nichols posted a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds in the season-ending decision. Olivia Decierdo netted 13 points with three assists.

The VC women's basketball team is returning to the postseason after finishing 15-13 during the 2025-26 campaign and 8-4 in Western State Conference play. The Pirates are seeded No. 22 and will travel to No. 11 Long Beach on Wednesday Feb. 25 for a first round match up with the Vikings in the 3C2A Southern California Regional Playoffs.

The VC women's basketball team used a decisive fourth-quarter surge and a strong night from Kayla Lumas to pull away for a 55–46 road victory at Oxnard Friday. Clinging to a three-point lead after three quarters, the Pirates closed with a 16–10 advantage in the final 10 minutes to secure the win. Lumas netted 23 points on the night to lead the effort in the regular season finale.

Riannah Lopez poured in a game-high 27 points to lead Ventura College to a 58-48 road victory over Cuesta on Saturday as VC broke the game open in the fourth quarter after three tightly contested frames. Trailing 14-12 after the first quarter, the Pirates methodically flipped the game with a 15-point second quarter to take a 27-25 edge into halftime. Ventura maintained its narrow advantage in a defensive-minded third, leading 41-38 heading to the final 10 minutes, before closing with a 17-10 surge in the fourth to pull away for the 10-point win.

The Bulldogs were limited to a 16 percent shooting effort by the Pirates as VC held them to single digits in each quarter of play. Olivia Decierdo had a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds, while handing out six assists and grabbing five steals in the contest and Kalya Lumas netted 19 points. Sienna Angell contributed 12 points for Ventura in the triumph.

Charnelle Nichols led a balanced scorebook with 14 points while Kayla Lumas netted 13 points with six rebounds. Sienna Angell scored 11 points, also with six boards, and Alyssa Ballesteros also contributed 11 points. Behind a perfect shooting night from Charnelle Nichols, the Pirates' women's basketball team shot its way to a 57-52 victory at Los Angeles Mission Wednesday to open Western State Conference play. Nichols was 6-6 from the floor, 1-1 from three, and 3-3 at the free throw line for 16 points to lead the way. Kayla Lumas netted 17 points and Riannah Lopez scored 12 for Ventura. The Pirates were 19-44 from the floor overall, 43 percent, and 7-17 from three, 41 percent while hitting 75 percent of their free throws, 12-16, in the contest.

The Ventura College women's basketball team dropped their final contest before the new year, falling 62-45 at state No.13 Glendale Tuesday evening. Kayla Lumas led with 12 points while Charnelle Nichols scored 10. Riannah Lopez netted nine points with six boards in the effort for the Pirates.

VC Women Can't Overcome Early Deficit at Valley

The VC women's basketball team fell behind early Saturday, and were not able to hold the lead after their comeback against the tournament hosts on the final day o fthe Buddy's All-Star Classic at Los Angeles Valley. The led 42-41 early in the fourth quarter, but the Monarchs were able to retake control down the stretch. Riannah Lopez scored 13 points to lead Ventura and Sofia Salgado added 11 to the effort. Kayla Lumas and Sienna Angell each pulled in seven rebounds in the contest.

The VC women's basketball team held a lead after one quarter gaainst San Francisco Friday before falling to the Rams on the second day of the Buddy's All-Star Classic at Los Angeles Valley. Charnelle Nichols led the effort for the second night in a row with 10 points while Riannah Lopezand Kayla Lumas each scored seven points. Sienna Angell grabbed a team-best eight rebounds and Nichols added seven boards.

The VC women's basketball team fell to Mt. San Antonio Thursday in the opening round of the Buddy's All-Star Classic at Los Angeles Valley College. Charnelle Nichols was the only VC player in double figures with 10 points while Kayla Lumas and Olivia Decierdo each netted nine. Decierdo also added five steals to the VC effort.

Lumas Drops 30 to Lead Ventura Comeback

Pirate freshman Kayla Lumas dropped 30 points, 28 in the second half, to lead the VC women's basketball team to a 57-52 comeback victory over East Los Angeles Saturday at Oxnard College to close the Kiwanis Crossover. Lumas was 9-10 from the floor, including a 3-pointer, and 9-9 from the free throw line to bring Ventura back from a 26-11 halftime deficit. She also secured a team-best six rebounds and grabbed a pair of steals in the win.

Olivia Decierdo handed out seven assists and pulled in nine rebounds in the effort for the Pirates (3-3).

The VC women's basketball team dropped a narrow decision Friday in the team' home oepenr, falling to Fullerton 49-45. Kayla Lumas led the effort with 11 points and Charnelle Nichols had 10 with a team-best eight rebounds in the game. Olivia Decierdo handed out five assists for the Pirates.

Women's Basketball opens season at Cougar Invitational

The VC women's basketball team opened their 2025-26 campaign over the weekend at the Cougar Invitational at Los Angeles Southwest College. The Pirates defeated Desert in the opener before dropping an overtime decision to Irvine Valley and another close contest to Reedley. Kayla Lumas earned All-Tournament honors for Ventura with 43 points over the three games.
