Angell's Five 3's Pace Big Pirate Win
The VC women's basketball team had a big start and a strong finish Friday night, defeating Santa Monica 63-34 on the opening day of the Kiwanis Crossover at the Athletic Event Center. Sienna Angell sank five 3-pointers to score 15 points for VC to lead the way and Charnelle Nichols also netted 15 in the victory. Olivia Decierdo handed out seven assists and pulled in nine rebounds in the effort for the Pirates (3-3).

Olivia Decierdo pulled in nine rebounds, handed out seven assists and grabbed three steals in the effort for the Pirates (3-3).
The Pirates outscored the Corsairs 18-6 in the opening period with Angell hitting three triples and Riannah Lopez scoring five on a deuce and a three to lead the way. VC opened up a lead of 11-2 just over three minutes into play and never looked back.
Things cooled off a bit in the second quarter and Ventura held a 25-13 margin at halftime.
Nichols paced the Pirates in the third quarter with nine points on 4-5 shooting from the floor, before Kayla Lumas and Ariella Harrison each recorded seven points in the final stanza to help the Pirates outscore SMC 26-13 down the stretch.
Nichols and Lumas each recorded seven rebounds in the game and Nichols dropped three dimes. Ava Elliott pulled in five boards off the bench.
VC will complete the Kiwanis Crossover on Saturday Nov. 22 at Oxnard College against East Los Angeles. Tip-of is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
