Pirates Roll to Big Win at El Camino
The Ventura College women's basketball team rolled to a 67-43 win at El Camino Wednesday evening in Torrance. Olivia Decierdo had 16 points with eight rbounds and four assists to lead the effort for VC while Riannah Lopez scored 15. Kalya Lumas and Sofia Salgado each netted 13 points in the balanced attack for the victory.

Kayla Lumas and Sofia Salgado each netted 13 points in the balanced attack for the victory.
After a slow start by both teams, VC went on an 11-2 run over the final five minutes of the first quarter to open up a 16-7 lead. Decierdo got the run going with a jumper and Lopez scored a lay-up with an assist by Sienna Angell. Decierdo had a steal and a bucket and Salgado hit a jumper for a 13-5 advantage. Lumas answered a Warrior bucket with a three in the final minute of the period.
Decierdo continued the run in the second quarter making three of four free throws and Lopez cashed in Charnelle Nichols' dime for a 21-7 Pirate margin with 6:43 left until halftime. Salgado sank a shot from beyond half court at the buzzer to give Ventura a 31-18 lead at intermission.
The Pirates expanded on their advantage in the third period, taking a 45-26 lead on Nichols' 3-pointer at the 2:31 mark. Lumas assisted a bucket by Angell, then made one of two free shots before Salgado again beat the buzzer for a 51-29 margin heading to the final stanza.
Ventura led by as many as 26 points, 61-35, on a three by Lopez at the 4:06 mark of the fourth quarter as the Pirates rode the wave to the big win.
VC will next travel to Los Angeles Valley on Dec. 11-13 for the Buddy's All-Star Classic. VC will take on Mt. San Antonio in the first round of the tournament on Dec. 11 at 3:00 pm.
