Pirate Women Fall in Conference Tilt
The VC women's basketball team dropped a Western State Conference game against Moorpark Saturday at the Athletic Event Center. Kayla Lumas led the effort for VC with 19 points and six rebounds, four steals while Olivia Decierdo netted 14 points with six boards. Charnelle Nichols aaded a team-best eight rebounds.

The Pirates held fast early with Decierdo hitting a pair of buckets and Lumas connecting on two foul shots to put Ventura ahead 9-5. The Raiders came back in the final four minutes of the opening period, however, scoring 12 straight points to open a 17-9 lead at the quarter break.
VC was unable to get untracked offensively as the deficit stretched to 14 points before Ava Elliott ended the skid with a lay-up off an assist by Alyssa Ballesteros with 6:46 remaining in the first half. Nearly four minutes later, Decierdo hit a three to end another scoreless skid, but the damage had been doe to the Pirates' chances. Moorpark led 39-14 at halftime.
Despite their best efforts and a 19-point third quarter, the Pirates could not make up ground on their rivals, ultimately dropping the conference tilt.
The Pirates return to action on Wednesday Jan. 14 at Santa Barbara. With construction going on at the SBCC Sports Pavilion, the contest against the Vaqueros is scheduled for 7:00 pm at Robertson Gym on the campus of UC Santa Barbara.
