Pirate golfers Michael Ray and Nick Burns both competed at the CCCAA State Championships Monday at the picturesque Silverado Country Club in Napa. Ray shot a 71-81--158 to finish in 41st position while Burns carded an 84-78--162 to come in 51st of the 60 individuals competing.

Ray and Burns Qualify for State Golf at SoCal Regionals

The Ventura College golfers Michael Ray and Nick Burns both qualified for the CCCAA State Championships in play at the Southern California Regionals on Monday at Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills. The Pirates shot a team score of 781 to place seventh of the nine teams to complete their team season.

Pirate freshman Mason Teron went low with a 36-hole total of 147, shooting 3-over par in the Western State Conference Championships. The Buena High School product earned All-WSC honors.
Golfers Finish 3rd Overall in WSC, Headed to Regionals

The Ventura College golf team struggled through the 36-hole Western State Conference Championships Monday at Ojai's Soule Park Golf Course. The Pirates shot a 397 in the morning round, coming in fifth place among the nine conference teams, and carded a 386 in the afternoon, placing fourth. Overall, Ventura shot a 783 to come in fifth place for the day. Mason Teron led VC with a 3-over 147, placing in a tie for eighth place overall, earning All-WSC honors.

The Pirate golf team fell to a fourth place finish Monday in the Western State Conference match hosted by Glendale College at Oakmont Country Club. Nick Burns and Kaden Santos went low for Ventura, both shooting a 7-over par 79. Santa Barbara won the match with a team score of 381 followed by Canyons at 387, Glendale at 391, and VC with a 405.

The Pirate golf team continued to score in third place Monday at the Western State Conference event hosted by Citrus College at San Dimas Canyon Golf Club. VC shot a team score of 395 to finish in third place of the nine conference teams for the sixth time in eight outings. Mason Teron went low for the Pirates carding a 3-over 75, good for a tie for sixth place overall.

VC freshman Michael Ray shot a 1-under par 71 to tie for fourth place overall on Monday as the Pirate golf team carded a team score of 383, good for ninth place in the 16-team Southern California Preview Tournament at Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills. Mason Teron shot an even par 72 as Ventura was just one shot over their low score of the season.

VC Golf Third at Victor Valley WSC Event

In the high desert of Victorville, the Ventura College golf team found ideal conditions once again, turning in their best performance of the season with a team score of 382 in the Western State Conference No 7 hosted by Victor Valley College. Five Pirates shot in the 70's, led by Michael Ray's 2-over 74 on the par-72 Spring Valley Lake Country Club course. Canyons won the event with a team score fo 361 followed by runner-up Santa Barbara with a 370.

VC freshman Justin Perich had a 77 Monday at the WSC No. 6 hosted at Antelope Valley Country Club. Ventura placed fourth on the day with a team score of 389.

In perfect weather conditions in the High Desert, the Ventura College men's golf team shot a team score of 389 to finish fourth at the Western State Conference No. 6 event hosted by Antelope Valley College at the par 72 Antelope Valley Country Club. Michael Ray tied for seventh overall with a 2-over 74 while Nick Burns and Justin Perich carded a 76 and 77, respectively. Canyons won the event with a team score of 367 followed by Santa Barbara (380) and Glendale (382).

The Pirates' golf team battled difficult windy conditions at the par-72 Santa Maria Country Club course on Monday, placing third at the Western State Conference No. 5 hosted by Allan Hancock College. The Pirates carded a team score of 398, behind Canyons at 387 and Santa Barbara at 389. Freshman Nick Burns tied for fourth place overall with a 2-over 74 while Mason Teron and Jake Yasutake each shot 79.

The Ventura College golf team fell to Northern California powerhouse reedley College Friday afternoon in a dual match played at the par-72 Hunter ranch Golf Club in Paso Robles. The Pirates carded a team score of 399 compared to the 369 posted by the Tigers. Michael Ray led Ventura with a 3-over 75 and Nick Burns shot a 4-over 77.

On an ideal day for golf in the Santa Clarita Valley, the Pirate golf team placed third at the Western State Conference event hosted by College of the Canyons at the par-72 Valencia Country Club. Kaden Santos went low for Ventura with a 5-over 77, good for sixth place overall. Mason Teron posted a 79 for the Pirates. VC had a team score of 405, which was good for third place. Canyons won the event with a 381 followed by Santa Barbara at 392.

The Ventura College golf team struggled on their home course, but still managed to finish third in the nine-team field at the Western State Conference No. 4 event hosted at the par-72 River Ridge Golf Course in Oxnard on Monday. Ventura carded a team score of 399 to finish behind Canyons at 371 and Santa Barbara at 382. Glendale was fourth with a 402. Mason Teron and Nick Burns led Ventura, each shooting a six-over 78 on the day.

Mason Teron shot a 2-over 74 to claim individual medalist honors, and Nick Burns was second with a 76 as the Pirate golf team won the Western State Conference event No. 2 hosted by Santa Barbara at Alisal Ranch Golf Course in Solvang on Monday. Ventura posted a team core of 392 to finish three shots ahead of SBCC with Canyons coming in third at 398.

The Pirates' golf team placed third of the nine Western State Conference teams at the WSC-Bakersfield event Monday at the par-72 Bakersfield Country Club Course. Ventura turned in a team score of 403, just three strokes behind second place College of the Canyons at 400. Santa Barbara won the event with a team score of 386. Nick Burns led VC with a 6-over 78, followed closely by Michael Ray at 79.

VC freshman Michael Ray shot a 9-over par 153 in the 36-hole Pt. Conception Open in Lompoc Sunday and Monday. The Pirates placed 8th of the 13 teams who completed both rounds of play.
Pirate Golfers Show Improvement in Pt. Conception Open

After a tough opening day on Sunday, the Pirate golf team rebounded Monday at the season-opening, 36-hole Pt. Conception Open at La Purisma Golf Course in Lompoc. Ventura carded a team score of 412 in Sunday's opening round before improving to a 393 in Monday's final round. The combined score of 805 was good for eighth place in the team standings of the 13 teams who played 36 holes. Michael Ray led the Pirates with a two-day total of 153 (79-74).
