Golfers Finish 3rd Overall in WSC, Headed to Regionals

The Ventura College golf team struggled through the 36-hole Western State Conference Championships Monday at Ojai's Soule Park Golf Course. The Pirates shot a 397 in the morning round, coming in fifth place among the nine conference teams, and carded a 386 in the afternoon, placing fourth. Overall, Ventura shot a 783 to come in fifth place for the day. Mason Teron led VC with a 3-over 147, placing in a tie for eighth place overall, earning All-WSC honors.

Ventura posted a team score of 397 in the morning round, coming in fifth. Canyons won the morning competition with a 359 followed by Santa Barbara at 364, Bakersfield at 385, Glendale at 387, and the Pirates. Teron had the low VC score with a 2-over 74, followed by Michael Ray and Jake Yasutake both with 6-over 78's. Other VC scores included Nick Burns, 81, Kaden Santos, 86, and Noah Hollander, 87. 

In the afternoon, the Pirates improved 13 strokes to post a 386, good for a tie for third place with Bakersfield, losing out on the tiebreaker. CoC was low again with a 355, and Santa Barbara was second with a 364. Teron went low again for Ventura at 1-over, followed by Ray with a 2-over 74 and Yasutake with a 5-over 77. Burns carded an 80, Santos an 82, and Hollander an 86.

Overall, the Pirates finished in third place in the WSC standings, earning them a berth in the Southern California Regional Championships to be held Monday May 6. The 36-hole event will be held at Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills.
