THe Pirate golf team matched its best finish ever, taking third place at the CCCAA State Championships Monday in Arroyo Grande. Joey Herrere tied for second place in the 36-hole event, earning All-State honors.
Pirate Golf Finishes 3rd, Herrera 2nd at State Championships

The Ventura College golf team matched its best finish ever, and freshman Joey Herrera tied for second place overall in the 36-hole CCCAA State Championships at the par-72 Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande Monday. The Pirates put together team scores of 399 and 390, for a total score of 789, behind state champions Canyons (761), who ran away with the title, and Cypress (785). Herrera put together rounds of 73 and 76 to post a 5-over 149 which tied him for second place.

The Ventura College golf team has qualified for the CCCAA State Championshuips for the first time since 2009.
Pirate Golf Headed to State Championships

For the first time in eight years, the Pirate golf team is headed to state. Led by Joey Herrera's 6-over 36-hole score of 148, the Pirates carded a team score of 774 at the El Camino Country Club in Oceanside to place fourth in the Southern California Regional Championships to punch the team ticket to the final event of the season.

Joey Herrera shot a 74, 71-145 Monday at the Western State Conference Championships to take second place in the 36-hole tournament. Herrera was also named the WSC Co-Most Valuable Player for his play during the entire season.
Pirates Golf Team Outstanding at WSC Championships

The Ventura College golf team had an outstanding day Monday at the Western State Conference Championships, shooting a combined 377, 378-755 to finish two strokes behind conference champion Canyons to easily claim second place on the day and for the season. Joey Herrera posted a 74, 71-145 to place second in the 36-hole tournament, and was also named the WSC Co-Most Valuable Player for his efforts during the season. Brandon Resnick and Denis Kakimoto earned all-conference honors for VC.

Brandon Resnick shot a 3-over 75 Monday and, along with Joey Herrera, led the Pirate golf team to a second place finish at the WSC event at Antelope Valley Country Club.
Desert Winds Make Golf Event Difficult, VC Places Second

In difficult windy conditions in the High Desert, the Pirate golf team placed second at the Western State Conference event hosted by Antelope Valley College Monday. Ventura posted a team score of 383, three shots behind conference-leading Canyons at 380, and 10 strokes ahead of third-place Santa Barbara. Joey Herrera and Brandon Resnick both posted 3-over 75's on the Antelope Valley Country Club course to lead VC.

Denis Kakimoto shot a 1-under par 71 Monday at Spring Valley Lake Country Club in Victorville, leading VC to a second place finish at the WSC-Victor Valley event.
Golfers Second at WSC-Victor Valley

The Pirate golf team turned in another solid performance Monday, taking second place at the Western State Conference event hosted by Victor Valley at Spring Valley Lake Country Club in Victorville. VC posted a team score of 367, five strokes behind conference-leading Canyons and eight shots ahead of third-place Santa Barbara. Denis Kakimoto shot a 1-under 71 to tie for third place overall, leading the Pirates.

Pirates Place Third at WSC-Glendale

The Ventura College golf team carded a third place finish at the Western State Conference event at Oakmont Country Club hosted by Glendale College Monday. The Pirates posted a team score of 403, finishing well behind Canyons (381) and the host Vaqueros (381). Kyle Dollison was the low man for VC with a 5-over par 76, good for fourth place individually and Connor Philpott came in tied for seventh with a 78.

VC Golf Second at WSC-Canyons Event

Joey Herrera shot a 1-over 73, good for third overall, as the Ventura College golf team came in second place at the Western State Conference event hosted by College of the Canyons at TPC Valencia Monday. The Pirates posted a team score of 379, six strokes behind the host Cougars, who carded a 373. Santa Barbara finished third on the day with a 391.

The VC golf team struggled in windy conditions at the par-72 Alisal Ranch Golf Course Monday in a Western State Conference event hosted by Santa Barbara City College. In fairness, most of the teams found the conditions difficult as the Pirates posted a team score of 401. The mark was good for third place overall, behind Canyons at 382 and Santa Barbara at 399. Denis Kakimoto led Ventura with a 4-over 76, good for a third place tie overall, followed by Brandon Resnick at 79.

VC Golf Moves into First Place With Another Win

The Ventura College golf team moved into first place overall in conference play with a team win at the Western State Conference neutral site event at El Camino Country Club In Oceanside, site of this year's SoCal Regional Championships. The Pirates posted a team score of 383, finishing ahead of second-place Santa Barbara (291), Citrus (394), and Canyons (400). Brandon Resnick earned medalist honors for the second time in as many weeks with a 1-over par 73.

Brandon Resnick carded a 2-under par 70 to claim medalist honors, leading the Pirates to a first place finish at the Western State Conference event hosted by Citrus College at San Dimas Country Club Monday. Joey Herrera and Kyle Dollison each shot an even-par 72 as Ventura totaled a score of 367, seven shots ahead of second place Canyons.

Playing on their home course, the par-72 Victoria Lakes course at River Ridge Golf Course in Oxnard, the Pirate golf team finished in third place of the eight teams participating. VC posted a team score of 397, behind Canyons (378) and Santa Barbara (389), and ahead of fourth place Citrus (399). Joey Ramirez was the low Pirate, carding a four-over 76 on the day.

Herrera Is Individual Medalist, VC Second at WSC-Bakersfield

For the second consecutive event, the Pirate golf team had the low man on the board. VC freshman Joey Herrera carded a 1-under par 70 Monday at the par-71 Stockdale Country Club in Bakersfield to earn individual medalist honors at the first Western State Conference match of the year. His efforts led the Pirates to a second place finish as a team in the eight-team field with a combined score of 384.

Pirate sophomore Brandon Resnick shot a 3-under par 69 Wednesday to claim medalist honors at the Eagle Golf Classic hosted by Mt. San Jacinto College.  VC finished third at the 15-team event.
Resnick Claims Medalist honor, VC Golf Finished Third

The VC golf team had a strong showing Wednesday at the Eagle Golf Classic hosted by Mt. San Jacinto College at the par-72 Soboba Springs Country Club. Sophomore Brandon Resnick carded a 3-under 69 to claim overall medalist honors and the Pirates finished third as a team in the 15-team event.

The Pirate golf team opened the season with a fourth place finish at the Pt. Conception Open at La Purisma Golf Course in Lompoc.
Pirate Golfers Begin Season In Fifth at Pt. Conception Open

The Pirate golf team opened the 2017 season with a fifth place finish at the Pt. Conception Open at the par-72 La Purisma Golf Club in Lompoc. Ventura totaled a 787 (395-392) for the two-day event and Joey Herrera was the low man for VC with a combined score of 151 (79-72), good for a seventh place tie individually.
