Football Transfers From '13 Up to 12

Pirate head football coach Steve Mooshagian has announced seven players from the 2013 Southern California Bowl team have committed to four-year schools this spring and summer. Combined with five mid-year transfers, 12 Pirates have committed to four-year institutions to continue their academic and athletic careers in 2014.

Quarterback Brad Odeman leads a class of five mid-year transfers fro the VC football program to four-year schools this winter.  A total of 71 players from VC have transferred to four-year schools in the past four years under head coach Steve Mooshagian.
FB Has Five Mid-Year Transfers

Pirate head football coach Steve Mooshagian has announced that five Pirates from the 2013 Pirate football team have transferred to four-year schools at mid-year, making them eligible to participate in spring practice at their new schools. One is transferring to NCAA Division I Football Bowl Series, one is moving on to an NCAA Division I Football Championship Series school, one to NCAA Division II, and two to an NAIA institution. These five helped VC to a two-year mark of 17-5 and two bowl appearances, in addition to the 2012 SCFA Northern Conference championship. In the past four years, VC has now matriculated 71 players to four-year schools under coach Mooshagian. The team anticipates more transfers in the post-signing day period.

Freshman offensive lineman Greg Hughes has been named first-team All-American by the California Community College Football Coaches Association.
OL Hughes Named All-American

Offensive lineman Greg Hughes has earned All-American honors from the California Community College Football Coaches Association for his efforts during the Pirates' 2013 football season. Hughes, a 6-foot-6, 360-pound freshman from Clarksville, Tenn. is the only Pirate to earn all-American distinction this season.

Freshman Aaron Stanton led VC, earning three All-Northern Conference selections as a running back, all-purpose back and return specialist for the 2013 season.
Pirates Earn All-SCFA Honors

Six Pirate football players have earned first-team All-Southern California Football Association Northern Conference honors while another three earned second-team honors in voting by the conference coaches. Aaron Stanton and Paul Harris received unanimous selections as all-purpose back and return specialist, respectively. Stanton actually earned three first team nods, including running back and second-team return specialist. Brad Odeman, Dylan McDaniel, and Greg Hughes were named first team on offense while Patrick Hall was honored on defense.

FB Falls in Golden State Bowl

In the 81-season history of Ventura College football, the Pirates had never played in three consecutive bowl games, until Saturday. Unfortunately for the Pirates, who took the field with 17 sophomores and 53 freshmen on the roster, they were facing Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut. The Mounties, state champions in 2009 and 2010, were not playing in the Southern California Championship for the first time since 2006 and were a touch match up for VC, a program on a steady rise into the state's elite. On this day VC had not quite made it, however, as Mt. SAC captured a 42-14 victory.

Pirates In Third Straight Bowl

The Pirate football team has enjoyed unprecedented success during the four-year tenure of head coach Steve Mooshagian. Sunday, the Pirates received their third straight bowl invitation for the first time in program history, and they have been moved into the heavyweight division. The Pirates (6-4), ranked No. 8 in the final Southern California rankings will head to Walnut on Saturday Nov. 23 for a 1:00 pm date in the Golden State Bowl against host No. 5 Mt. San Antonio College (8-2).

Pirate defensive end Ben Dixon had three quarterback sacks, including two on fourth down plays in the fourth quarter, as VC defeated Pasadena 37-27 on Saturday.  The Pirates end the regular season at 6-4 and become bowl eligible for the third year in a row for the first time in school history.
Odeman, "D" Lead VC to Victory

Quarterback Brad Odeman passed for 353 yards and a touchdown, and rushed for 53 yards and four more scores leading the Pirates to a 37-27 victory at Pasadena City College Saturday night. The Pirate defense held the Lancers' offense scoreless in the second half, as VC turned a 21-21 halftime tie into a 35-21 advantage in the closing minutes. Defensive end Ben Dixon had three quarterback sacks and linebacker Matt Singleton had 12 stops, including three for a loss. With the win, the Pirates end the regular season at 6-4, 4-2 in the Northern Conference, and become bowl eligible for the third straight year, a first in Ventura College football history.

Freshman Aaron Stanton rushed for 238 yards to lead VC past Hancock 28-20 Saturday night at the Sportsplex, leaving the Pirates in need on one more victory to become bowl eligible for the third straight season.
Stanton Leads VC Past AHC

On the Pirates' first play from scrimmage, freshman running back Aaron Stanton raced 85 yards for a touchdown. Ventura never looked back, led by Stanton's 238 rushing yards and two touchdowns in their 28-20 SCFA Northern Conference contest over Allan Hancock College at the Sportsplex Saturday night. Quarterback Brad Odeman threw for 198 yards and a score as the Pirates (5-4, 3-2) ended a three-game skid and put their focus back squarely on qualifying for their third straight post-season bowl berth.

VC freshman Aaron Stanton rushed for 154 yards and two touchdowns, and caught eight passes for another 66 yards, but the Pirates fell at Cerritos 56-27 on Saturday night.
Wild 1st Quarter Downs Pirates

A wild first quarter in which Cerritos scored 34 points doomed the Pirate football team Saturday night, as VC lost their third straight contest for the first time in five years, 56-27 on the road. Freshman Aaron Stanton had 220 yards from scrimmage, including 154 yards rushing with two touchdowns and 66 yards receiving, and quarterback Brad Odeman threw for 38 yards, but it was not near enough to turn back the Falcons.

Pirates Knocked Down by CoC

For the first time since the end of the 2011 season, the Pirate football team does not sit atop the Northern Conference following their 44-23 loss to College of the Canyons at the Sportsplex Saturday night. VC (4-3, 2-1) was with one, 14-13 in the second quarter, and pulled to within a touchdown early in the fourth quarter, but too many missed opportunities and too many big plays by the Cougars ended VC's 9-game conference winning streak.

Pirates Humbled at Saddleback

What started out as a shootout in the first quarter became a rout in the second as the Pirate football team dropped a 52-28 non-conference contest at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo Saturday night. The Gauchos scored 31 unanswered points from late in the first period through early in the third, taking control of a 14-14 contest. VC (4-2, 2-0) inflicted much of the damage unto itself with five turnovers, including three interceptions in the red zone.

Odeman Passes to Another PoW

Pirate quarterback Brad Odeman continues to have a stellar season. He has won his third Southern California Football Association Northern Conference Offensive Player of the Week honor for his efforts in the Citrus Cup matchup with Moorpark on Saturday. In the Pirates 54-21 win, Odeman broke his own school record, passing for 438 yards on 38-51 passing, including five touchdowns.

Football Retains Citrus Cup

The Citrus Cup was up for grabs in the 46th meeting between Ventura and Moorpark on Saturday at the VC Sportsplex. When the night was done, it remained firmly in the grasp of the Pirates for the sixth straight year with VC's 54-21 victory over the Raiders. Quarterback Brad Odeman continued his dominance, breaking his own single-game record with 438 yards passing, including five touchdowns, and 16 different receivers caught passes, including five with one touchdown each as Ventura (4-1, 2-0) scored the most points in series history.

The Pirate football team won at Bakersfield's Memorial Stadium for the first time ever Saturday night in part due to a tough defensive effort. Leading the charge was defensive back Antonio Cowart, who has earned the Southern California Football Association Northern Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors for his efforts.

Punter Alex Nelson played a key role in VC's 24-16 win at Bakersfield Saturday, the program's first ever at BC's Memorial Stadium.
Pirate FB Wins at Bakersfield

Behind quarterback Brad Odeman the Pirate offense rolled to a 24-0 halftime lead Saturday night at Bakersfield. The VC defense did the rest, holding off a late charge by the Renegades, as Ventura claimed a 24-16 victory at Bakersfield's Memorial Stadium, the Pirates first victory in 13 tries at the classic California community college football venue. Odeman passed for 236 yards and two touchdowns while Paul Harris rushed for 106 yards, and punter Alex Nelson pinned BC inside their own 10-yard line three times, including on the Renegades final drive, to help preserve the Pirate win.

For the second time in as many weeks, VC quarterback Brad Odeman has been named the Southern California Football Association Northern Conference Offensive Player of the Week. In VC's 46-6 win over Los Angeles Harbor, Odeman completed 33 of 47 passes for 432 yards and five touchdowns. he also carried the ball seven times for 32 yards and another score. In three games, Odeman had thrown for 15 touchdowns without an interception.
