The Pirate baseball team dropped both games of a home-and-home series against El Camino Friday and Saturday. VC gave up big innings early in Friday's home contest, dropping a 16-7 decision before falling on the road 6-1 on Saturday. Brandon Contreras had a pair of RBI in the series and Damien Valdez had three hits with a run batted in and a run scored in the two games.
The Pirates fell behind early on Friday, giving up a seven-spot in the top of the second inning and another four runs in the third.
Ventura kept up the fight, however, producing seven runs in the bottom of the sixth. Contreras, Milar Kuhl, Mario Franco and Nate Slaton all drew walks to force home the first run and Tyler Field reached base on an error to bring home another score. Nate Lajole followed with a fielder's choice that knocked in a run and Santiago Avila hit an RBI single. James Luderer followed with a base on balls to reload the diamond and D. Valdez singled home a score. Contreras and Kuhl followed with bases loaded walks to score two more runs.
Unfortunately, VC was unable to generate any more offense in the game, falling 16-7.
A big inning did the Pirates again on Saturday, this time five-runs from the Warriors in the bottom of the second.
In the next half-inning, Ventura got on the board. D. Valdez and Luderer each singled and Matthew Ramirez reached on a fielder's choice before Contreras hit an RBI single to left field.
That would be the lone run for the Pirates, however, as they were unable to generate any more offense off of El Camino Pitching in the 6-1 loss.
Ventura returns to the diamond on Tuesday Feb. 3, hosting Irvine Valley at 2:00 pm at Pirate Park.
