The VC baseball team swept a double header Saturday at Pirate Park against Los Angelees Pierce College, 6-2 and 11-7. Tyler Field led the effort with two doubles, a home run and four runs batted in on the day for the Pirates (7-8, 2-1) and Hector Pina recorded a pair of two-baggers with three RBI. Will Kaczynski pitched five scoreless innings to pick up the win in Game 1 and Alex Villacana gave up one run over 2.2 innings of middle relief for the victory in the nightcap.

Brandon Contreras knocked in the only VC run of the day while Matthew Ramirez had a pair of hits, including a double. Aiden Nykoluk reached base on an error, eventually scoring the game's lone run.

VC baseball mounted multiple comebacks and pounded out 16 hits, but a late surge by Rio Hondo sent the Pirates to a 14-12 defeat in a three-hour slugfest Thursday afternoon in Whittier. Aiden Nykoluk, Brandon Contreras, Hector Pina and Matthew Ramirez all pounded out three hits for VC. The Roadrunners used a four-run seventh to create decisive separation, then held off a ninth-inning Ventura push to claim the high-scoring contest.

VC gave up big innings early in Friday's home contest, dropping a 16-7 decision before falling on the road 6-1 on Saturday. Baseball Sweeps Compton to Open Season

The VC baseball team swept Compton in a home-and-home series Friday and Saturday to open their 2026 campaign. Hector Pina smashed out five hits, including a home run, with three runs batted in and four runs scored while Tyler Field also recorded a home run among five hits with four RBI in the two games. Jacob Roa and Will Kaczynski each made solid starts on the mound while Nicholas Tosatado and Connor Jacobson each picked up wins in relief for the Pirates (2-0).
