Baseball Sweeps Compton to Open Season
The VC baseball team swept Compton in a home-and-home series Friday and Saturday to open their 2026 campaign. Hector Pina smashed out five hits, including a home run, with three runs batted in and four runs scored while Tyler Field also recorded a home run among five hits with four RBI in the two games. Jacob Roa and Will Kaczynski each made solid starts on the mound while Nicholas Tosatado and Connor Jacobson each picked up wins in relief for the Pirates (2-0).

Ventura 8, Compton 5
Pina provided the key hit in the game, blasting a three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to set the final 8-5 margin. Pina also scored the game-tying run an inning earlier, crossing the plate on Lucas Martinov's RBI double.
Brandon Contreras totaled three hits, including a double, with an RBI and a run scored and Aiden Nykoluk also singled twice scoring two times. James Luderer also knocked out a pair of hits with a run scored in the season-opening victory.
Roa had a solid start, pitching into the sixth inning while striking out three and giving up five earned runs. N. Tostado came out of the bullpen throwing 3.1 scoreless innings with a pair of punch-outs to pick up the win.
Ventura 10, Compton 2
The Pirates finished the sweep with the solid road triumph behind a 4-5 performance from Field that featured a two-run home run and a total of four RBI. Pina had three hits and scored twice and Grant Rodriguez scored three runs for Ventura in the contest.
Kaczynski pitched three scoreless frames to start the game and Jacobson gave up an unearned run in his three innings of work on the mound to pick up the win. Johnny Levelis and Victor Tostado also saw action out of the pen to close out the game.
VC next heads to Mission Viejo on Tuesday Jan. 27 to take on Saddleback. First pitch with the Bobcats is at 2:00 pm.
