Baseball Falls to Santa Barbara
The in a game postponed a day by weather, the Pirate baseball team was not able to find its groove in a loss to Santa Barbara Wednesday at Pirate Park. Lucas Martinov recorded a pair of hits, including a double, with a run batted in and a run scored in the limited Ventura offensive attack. Brandon Contreras also had a single and a run scored for VC, who totaled three hits and six drawn walks in the contest.

Lucas Martinov recorded a pair of hits, including a double, with a run batted in and a run scored in the limited Ventura offensive attack. Brandon Contreras also had a single and a run scored for VC, who totaled three hits and six drawn walks in the contest.
After Santa Barbara took a 1-0 lead in the first and added another run in the third, the game shifted sharply in the fourth. The Vaqueros scored five times in the top half to build a 7-0 cushion before Ventura answered with a run in the bottom of the inning to make it 7-1. Any chance of a Pirates comeback was short-lived, as Santa Barbara sent eight more runs across in the fifth.
The Pirates scored their first run in the fourth inning when Contreras singled, Grant Rodriguez walked, and Martinov hit an RBI single.
Martinov then led off the seventh with a double and scored when Damien Valdez grounded out to shortstop.
Ventura will close the 2026 season at home on Friday Apr. 24 against Allan Hancock College. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm at Pirate Park.
