Ventura Explodes for 17 Runs to Rout Oxnard

A five-run first inning and an eight-run outburst in the fifth powered Ventura College to a 17-3 road win over Oxnard on Saturday afternoon, capping a dominant offensive performance by the Pirates. Lucas Martinov banged out four hits, including a double and a triple, with five runs batted in and James Luderer had a double and a triple with six RBI to lead the offensive attack. Will Kaczynski pitched five innings and gave up three runs to pick up the win on the mound.

A timely two-run seventh inning and a strong start from right-hander Connor Jacobson pushed Ventura past Oxnard 5–4 on Thursday at Pirate Park. Lucas Martinov had a pair of hits and two runs batted in to lead the offense while Brandon Contreras and James Luderer each scored twice. Aiden Nykoluk also recorded two hits on the day.

Brandon Contreras had four hits, including a pair of doubles, wit three runs batted in on Thursday and Matthew Ramirez knocked out three hits, also with a double, and scored a run Saturday.

A four-run surge in the seventh inning brought Ventura back into striking distance, but an early deficit and Cuesta’s 17-hit attack proved too much to overcome as the Pirates dropped a 10-5 decision Tuesday afternoon at Pirate Park. Matthew Ramirez recorded a pair of hits and Grant Rodriguez knocked in three runs to lead the Pirates. Brandon Contreras doubled and scored a run in the effort against the Cougars.

Starter Will Kaczynski pitched four scoreless innings while Nate Lajole had two runs batted in and Matthew Ramirez knocked in a run with a double in the decisive frame. Alex Villacana and Nicholas Tostado followed with five solid innings out of the bullpen to preserve the Pirates' series sweep over the cross-county rivals.

A five-run first inning set the tone as Ventura defeated rival Moorpark 9-5 on Thursday afternoon at Pirate Park, riding early offense and a steady bullpen to the Western State Conference victory. Lucas Martinov had a two-RBI single for VC and Nate Lajole also knocked in a pair of runs for the Pirates. Ventura used seven pitchers to shut down the Raiders in the win.

The Ventura College baseball team mounted multiple late-inning rallies but could not overcome a big early deficit in a 16-8 road loss to Los Angeles Pierce Wednesday in Woodland Hills. Matthew Ramirez had a pair of hits with a run batted in and a run scored and Brandon Contreras smacked a three-run home run but it was not enough for the Pirates to overtake the Brahmas in the Western State Conference opener.

The Pirate baseball jumped out to an early lead and pounded out 13 hits, but Irvine Valley used a series of timely rallies and strong relief pitching to hand the Pirates a 7-5 road loss on Tuesday. Matthew Ramirez went 3-for-5 with two runs batted in to pace the Pirates’ attack and Aiden Nykoluk added a 2-for-4 effort, including a double and a run scored, helping Ventura build its early lead and stay within striking distance late.

The VC baseball team rode dominant pitching and a first-inning sacrifice fly to a 1-0 win over Rio Hondo on Saturday afternoon at Pirate Park, as Will Kaczynski, Ezekiel Savage and Victor Tostado combined on a one-hitter on the mound. Brandon Contreras knocked in the only VC run of the day while Matthew Ramirez had a pair of hits, including a double. Aiden Nykoluk reached base on an error, eventually scoring the game's lone run.

VC baseball mounted multiple comebacks and pounded out 16 hits, but a late surge by Rio Hondo sent the Pirates to a 14-12 defeat in a three-hour slugfest Thursday afternoon in Whittier. Aiden Nykoluk, Brandon Contreras, Hector Pina and Matthew Ramirez all pounded out three hits for VC. The Roadrunners used a four-run seventh to create decisive separation, then held off a ninth-inning Ventura push to claim the high-scoring contest.

Baseball Drops Two-Game Series vs. El Camino

The Pirate baseball team dropped both games of a home-and-home series against El Camino Friday and Saturday. VC gave up big innings early in Friday's home contest, dropping a 16-7 decision before falling on the road 6-1 on Saturday. Brandon Contreras had a pair of RBI in the series and Damien Lopez had three hits with a run batted in and a run scored in the two games.
