Hancock finished with 17 runs on 18 hits while Ventura collected 12 hits but left 11 runners on base. The decisive stretch came immediately in the bottom of the first, when Hancock sent 11 men to the plate and built a 6-0 lead. Ventura spent the middle innings trying to chip away, getting on the board in the second, third and fifth, but the Pirates never got closer than three runs before the Bulldogs pulled away.
VC showed some offensive life early. Pina and Howard helped spark a two-run second inning, and Luderer continued the push in the third when he tripled and scored on Ramirez's double to trim the deficit to 6-3. Luderer later added a home run and finished 2 for 3 with two runs scored and one RBI, part of a day in which the Pirates produced three extra-base hits, including two doubles, one triple and two home runs.
The Pirates begin the final push of the season on Tuesday Apr. 14 at Los Angeles Pierce College.
