Benitez-Fanslow and Jessie Earn All-WSC Honors in Volleyball

VC sophomores Taylor Benitez-Fanslow and Braxton Jessie led four Pirates on the All-Western State Conference North Division team as voted on by conference coaches month.  Benturz-Fanslow earned first team accolades while Jessie was named second team All-WSC for the 2017 season.

Pirate Volleyball Falls in Playoffs at Pasadena

The third time was not the charm. Playing in the playoffs for the third time in the past four seasons, the Pirate volleyball team fell at Pasadena Saturday night, 25-13, 25-19, 28-26. Bryanna Lovingood led VC (12-13) with eight kills and three blocks while Caryssa Castrejon recorded 13 digs and five kills. Seeing her first action in nearly a month, Taylor Benitez-Fanslow had six kills.

Pirate Volleyball Earns Playoff Berth

For the third time in the past four years, the Pirates' volleyball team will be playing in the post-season. Ventura (12-12) earned the No. 18-seed in the 18-team Southern California Regional playoffs and will travel to No. 15 Pasadena (17-9) on Saturday Nov. 18 for a 7:30 pm match against the Lancers. If Ventura can pull out the upset victory, they will travel to No. 1 Irvine Valley on Tuesday Nov. 21.

Spikers Sweep Bulldogs in Final Regular Season Match

In her final home volleyball match, VC sophomore Braxton Jessie had 13 kills, 12 digs and four aces to lead Ventura past visiting Allan Hancock 25-10, 25-10, 25-15 Friday evening at the Athletic Event Center. Caryssa Castrejon recorded 13 digs, six kills and four aces as the Pirates (12-12, 3-5) finish tied for third in the Western State Conference North Division. VC will now wait for the Southern California seeding meeting to see if they will receive the program's third post-season bid in the past four years.

VC Falls in Three at Moorpark

The Pirate volleyball team made the journey to the east county Wednesday evening, falling in three sets to Moorpark, 25-22, 25-19, 25-16. Braxton Jessie had 11 kills and seven digs to lead the Pirates (11-12, 2-5) while Caryssa Castrejon had eight kills and seven digs in the match. Danielle Garcia handed out 21 assists.

Pirate Volleyball Drops Match at Santa Barbara

The Pirate volleyball team traveled to Santa Barbara Wednesday, coming home with a straight set defeat at the hands of the Vaqueros, 25-16, 25-18, 25-19. Braxton Jessie had seven kills and 11 digs for Ventura (11-11, 2-4) and Danielle Garcia handed out 13 assists with 12 digs.

VC Sweeps Cuesta to Split Season Series

On the strength of another balanced attack, the Pirate volleyball team swept visiting Cuesta 25-18, 25-18, 25-20 Friday night at the Athletic Event Center. The victory counters a loss earlier in the season to the Cougars, keeping alive the team's hopes for a playoff berth next month. Caryssa Castrejon led the way with 11 kills and 15 digs while Braxton Jessie recorded 10 kills with 15 digs. Danielle Garcia handed out 24 assists for the Pirates (11-10, 2-3).

Spikers Back on Track at Allan Hancock

The VC volleyball team got back on track Wednesday evening, posting a three-set wsweep of host Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria, 25-8, 25-10, 25-10. Braxton Jessie had six kills and 24 digs while Bryanna Lovingood recorded a team-high seven kills, leading the balanced attack.Janessa Simental and Carina Cates also recorded six kills while Caryssa Castrejon had five kills for the Pirates (10-10, 1-3).

Volleyball Battles Moorpark to Four Sets

The Ventura College volleyball team had an up and down night, and still had a shot late against visiting Moorpark, falling in four sets to the Raiders 25-18, 19-25, 25-12, 25-22 at the Athletic Event Center Friday night. Taylor Benitez-Fanslow had 18 kills, 15 digs and three service aces to lead the Pirates while Braxton Jessie recorded seven kills and 10 digs for the Pirates (9-10, 0-3).

Spikers With Strong Effort Against Santa Barbara

The Ventura College volleyball team gave a strong effort Friday night before falling in three sets to visiting Santa Barbara City College 25-18, 25-23, 25-22.. VC held leads late in the final two sets before falling to the Vaqueros who are ranked No. 6 in the state. Taylor Benitez-Fanslow led Ventura (9-9, 0-2) with 12 kills and 25 digs. Braxton Jessie also had 12 kills with 14 digs.

Pirates Drop Conference Opener at Cuesta

The Pirate volleyball team got the longest conference trip out of the way in the Western State Conference opener Wednesday night. Unfortunately in was a long trip back from San Luis Obispo as VC dropped the 3-set affair, 25-22, 25-19, 25-20. Taylor Benitez-Fanslow had 15 kills while Braxton Jessie returned from injury to record 13 digs. Danielle Garcia handed out 15 assists and Daisy Martinez had 12 helpers.

Madeline Bolish (9) had four kills, and Taylor Benitez-Fanslow (8) had eight kills Friday night for the Pirates at Bakersfield.

The Pirate volleyball team traveled to Bakersfield Friday night, falling to the host Renegades 25-17, 25-22, 25-14. Caryssa Castrejon had six kills and 13 digs for Ventura while Taylor Benitez-Fanslow recorded eight kills and four blocks.

Spikers Sweep West Los Angeles

The VC volleyball team made quick work of visiting West Los Angeles College Wednesday night, sweeping the Wildcats 25-14 25-17 25-14. Taylor Benitez-Fanslow had eight kills and 15 digs to lead the way while Daisy Martinez handed out nine assists and hit five service aces. Caryssa Castrejon recorded six kills with 11 digs and Danielle Garcia handed out 12 helpers.

Pirates Go The Distance With San Diego Mesa

The Pirate volleyball team went the distance with visiting San Diego Mesa Friday night at the Athletic Event Center, falling in five sets, 20-25, 25-22, 25-23, 22-25, 15-12. The hard fought match was marred by a controversial call on the final point, giving the match to the Olympians rather than allowing the Pirates a chance to tie the score with the next serve. Taylor Benitez-Fanslow led VC (8-6) with 17 kills, 16 digs, four blocks and four aces.

VC Fights Hard Before Falling to No. 14 Long Beach

The Pirate volleyball team fought hard Wednesday, playing perhaps its best match of the season, falling to state No. 14-ranked Long Beach City College 25-22, 22-25, 25-22, 25-18 at the Athletic Event Center. Taylor Benitez-Fanslow led the Pirates (8-5) with 17 kills, 19 digs and four blocks while Caryssa Castrejon recorded 10 kills and 19 digs.

Volleyball Sweeps Match At Glendale

The VC volleyball team traveled to Glendale College Tuesday night, handing the host Vaqueros a sweeping 3-0 defeat, 25-19, 25-10 and 25-12. Caryssa Castrejon had a solid all-around outing with seven kills, 10 digs and five services aces. Taylor Benitez-Fanslow led the way with 11 kills and nine digs while Jordan Neria recorded 11 digs for the Pirates (8-4).
