Four Pirates Earn Track & Field All-American Honors

At the final athletic event of the 2022-23 academic year, the VC men's and women's track and field teams had four athletes earn All-American honors at the CCCAA State Championships Friday and Saturday in Modesto. Saj Nelson led the contingent with a lifetime best throw in the shot put to finish fifth, while Sopia Godina and Brenda Garcia and Isaiah Marecheau also earned All-American honors at the meet.

Track & Field Sending Five to State

The VC track and field teams are sending three women and two men to the CCCAA State Championships next week in Modesto. Sophia Godina qualified in two events and will be joined by Brenda Garcia and Saj Nelson for the women while Isaiah Marecheau and Ramire Mateos are advancing for the Pirate men. Overall, Ventura's men placed 12th and the women 16th at the 28-team SoCal Regionals at San Diego Mesa Friday.

Pirate freshman Adam Alfred won the discus throw and placed third in the shot put and fourth in the hammer to help the VC men to a second place finish at the WSC Championships. The VC women came in fourth in the 11-team field.
Track & Field Men 2nd, Women 4th at WSC's

Battling through some injuries, the VC men's track and field team were the runner's up at Friday's Western State Championships at Moorpark. The Pirate women came in fourth out of the 11 competing teams. Aam Alfred, Peyton Hoff and Isaiah Marecheau all brought home gold medals for the men while Sophia Godina, Brenda Garcia, Jamie Lozano and Saj Nelson won silver for the women. In total, 10 men and nine women qualified for the Southern California Regionals that begin on Friday May 6.

Ventura Posts Strong Marks at Mt. SAC Invite

The VC men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Mt. San Antonio College Invitational Saturday with more strong marks in a number of events. Adrian Valdez led the men with the sixth-fastest time in VC history in the 800m to pick up the silver medal. Meanwhile, William Boyd had the eighth-fastest time in school history in the 100m. Sophia Godina led the women with the fourth-fastest time at VC in the 800m,also winning silver.

VC freshman Samantha McKenzie ran first in he 100m hurdles Friday at the Moorpark Open. She also finished sixth in the 100m and 200m races.
VC Track & Field Competes at Moorpark Open

The VC men's and women's track and field teams traveled across the county Friday to compete in the Moorpark Open Friday with some strong results. William Boyd, Ramiro and the 4x100m relay team of Boyd, AJ Monarres, Thomas Dore and Andrew Stuart all claimed golf for the Pirate men while Samantha McKenzie, Saj Nelson and Brenda Garcia all won events for the Ventura women.

VC Men & Women Both 2nd at WSC Coastal

The VC men's and women's track and field teams each finished second of six competing teams Friday at the Western State Conference Coastal Meet at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo. The Pirate men produced seven individual first place finishes on the day, including two each by Adrian Valdez and Adam Alfred. VC;s women had three of gold medal performances, including one each by Sophia Godina, Jamie Lozano and Saj Nelson.

Pirates Compete at Long Beach City, CSU Fullerton and Occidental

The VC men's and women's track and field teams split their squads over the weekend, competing at the Viking Invitational at Long Beach City College on Friday before throwing at the Ben Brown Invite at Cal State Fullerton and running at the Occidental Distance Carnival Saturday. Isaiah Marecheau won the 100m in Long Beach and anchored the gold medal 4x100m relay with William Boyd, AJ Monarres and Thomas Dore, among other strong performances from the Pirates.
