Ventura Posts Strong Marks at Mt. SAC Invite

The VC men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Mt. San Antonio College Invitational Saturday with more strong marks in a number of events. Adrian Valdez led the men with the sixth-fastest time in VC history in the 800m to pick up the silver medal. Meanwhile, William Boyd had the eighth-fastest time in school history in the 100m. Sophia Godina led the women with the fourth-fastest time at VC in the 800m,also winning silver.

Boyd (Buena) ran fourth in the 100m, breaking the tape in 10.60 to finish fourth and was 10th in the 200m dash. He also ran with AJ Monarres (Ventura), Thomas Dore (Oxnard) and Andrew Stuart (Buena) to place fourth in the 4x100m relay. Dore ran 10.72 in the 100m to finish eighth with the 13th fastest time in VC history while Monarres came in 14th in the 400m.

Vadlez (Oxnard) posted a mark of 1:55.04 in the 800m to place second and Erick Tienda (Rio Mesa) was seventh in the 1500m run.

In the field, Adam Alfred (Oxnard) placed sixth in the discus and seventh in the shot put and Payton Hoff (Buena) was sixth in the hammer and eighth in the shot. Dante Mata-Burney (Santa Paula) won bronze in the high jump and was 10th in the long jump. 

For the Pirate women, Godina (Rio Mesa) ran a 2:19.02 to claim silver in the 800m. Samantha McKenzie (Oxnard) placed fourth in the 100m hurdles and ninth in the 100m dash and Symone Collins (Rio Mesa) was 14th in the 200m and 15th in the 100m.

Jamie Lozano (Oxnard) led Ventura in the field placing fifth in the hammer throw, sixth in the discus and 10th in the shot put. Saj Nelson (Pacifica) was fourth in the shot and eighth in the discus and Denise Cardona (Pacifica) placed ninth in the hammer. Myah Hall (Rio Mesa) finished fourth in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump.

The Pirates next compete at the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific University on Saturday April 15 before the Western State Conference Preliminaries on Friday April 21.
