VC Track & Field Competes at Moorpark Open

The VC men's and women's track and field teams traveled across the county Friday to compete in the Moorpark Open Friday with some strong results. William Boyd, Ramiro Mateos and the 4x100m relay team of Boyd, AJ Monarres, Thomas Dore and Andrew Stuart all claimed golf for the Pirate men while Samantha McKenzie, Saj Nelson and Brenda Garcia all won events for the Ventura women.

McKenzie (Oxnard) broke the tape first in the 100m hurdles with a state-B standard time of 15.8 seconds. Individually, she also competed in the 100m and 200m races, coming in sixth in both.

Nelson (Pacifica) also had a golden day winning the shot put with a state-A standard throw of 1=37' 7.25". She also placed fifth in the discus, sixth in the javelin and seventh in the hammer.

Garcia (Buena), meanwhile broke the tape first in the 3000m steeplechase with a state-A standard 12:22.20.

Jamie Lozano (Oxnard) claimed three medals on the day, silvers in the shot put and discus and a bronze in the discus while Denise Cardona (Pacifica) was third in the hammer and seventh in the discus.

Stephanie Garcia (Rio Mesa) placed fourth in the triple jump and ninth in the 200m and Symone Collins came in seventh in the 200m and eighth in th 100m races.

On the men's side, Boyd (Buena) was first among collegiate competition in the 100m running a CCCAA-B standard 10.74, fifth overall, and second in the 200m for collegians, fifth overall. He was joined by Monarres (Ventura), Dore (Oxnard) and Stuart (Buena) to win the 4x100m relay with a time of 42.01, good for a state-A standard. 

Mateos (Oxnard) ran a CCCAA-B standard in the 3000m steeplechase, breaking the tape first in 9:54.24.

VC's 4x400m relay team of Monarres, Boyd, Jack Hawley (Ventura) and Isaiah Spence (Oxnard) ran second.

Individually, Monarres won silver in the 400m while Dore was the second collegiate runner, sixth overall, in the 100m. Stuart came in ninth in the 100m, the fourth collegian, and 15th in the 200m. Hawley, meanwhile, was 10th in the 400m.

Erick Tienda (Rio Mesa) claimed bronze in the 800m and finished fifth in the 1500m and 5000m races. and Josh Weinerth (Rio Mesa) ran ninth in the 5k.

In the field events, Adam Alfred (Oxnard) led the Ventura effort with a runner-up finish in the discus, third place finishes in the shot put and javelin, and a fifth in the hammer. Dante Mata-Burney (Santa Paula) claimed bronze in the high jump and was sixth in the triple jump. Payton Hoff (Buena) came in fourth the the discus and hammer throws and seventh in the shot put. Ethan Sanchez (Buena) placed sixth in the javelin and Yoy Vasquez (Pacifica) was seventh in the hammer.

The Pirates next compete at the Vaquero Invitational in Glendale on Friday April 7.
