The VC men's water polo team had a lot to play for on Saturday. With their 15-12 victory over Citrus in the thrid-place game of the Western State Conference Tournament, the Pirates finish their season with a 13-13 overall mark, the program's best finish since 2016. Evan Augusta led the inspired effort with four goals while Samuel Abarca, Michael Soho and Brayden Black all scored twice in the win.Stephen McNaughten turned in 10 saves in the cage for Ventura.

Men's Polo Dropps Close Decision in WSC Semi's

The Pirates' men's water polo team went down swinging Friday, dropping a 23-17 decision to Los Angeles Valley in the semifinal round of the Western State Conference Tournament at Citrus College. Evan Augusta and Owen Patterson each scored four goals in the effort while Michael Soho, Samuel Abarca and Thomas Shea each scored twice. Patterson also had three drawn exclusions and a pair of steals in the game for VC (12-12, 2-3).

The Pirates' men's water polo team left the Día de los Muertos Tournament in Chula Vista witha pair of wins Saturday, defeating San Digeo Miramar 18-4 before outlasting San Diego Mesa 12-10 in the finale. Owen Patterson again led VC (12-11, 2-2) with seven goals on the day while Evan Augusta and Brayden Black each netted five in the two games. Ethan Ortiz totaled eight saves in the cage.

Men's Polo Takes Two to Close Golden West Tourney

The VC men's water polo team captured a pair of victories Saturday to close the Golden West Tournament in Costa Mesa. Ventura (9-9, 1-2) took down Palomar 16-14 in the morning match before defeating Riverside 10-7 in the finale. Evan Augusta scored seven goals to lead the way for the Pirates and Stephen McNaughten recorded nine saves in the cage in the two wins.

Pirate Men Split Two at Golden West Tourney

The VC men's water polo team split a pair of games Friday at the Golden West Tournament in Huntington Beach. The Pirates (7-9, 1-2) dropped a decision against the hosts before edging Sierra by a single goal. Owen Patterson scored four goals with a apir of steals and four drawn exclusions on the day while Michael Soho scored three times with two steals. Evan Augusta also netted a pair of scores.

Pirates Defeat Diablo Valley at Cuesta

The Pirates' men's water polo team defeated Diablo Valley 15-11 Friday at the Cuesta Classic II in San Luis Obispo. In the second game o fthe day, VC dropped a decision to the host Cougars. Owen Patterson scored eight goals and recorded four drawn exclusions on the day while Evan Augusta had six scores with two steals. Samuel Abarca and Brayden Black each netted a pair of goals in the effort for Ventura (6-8, 1-2).

Pirate Men Return Home, Fall to Cuesta

Playing at the Ventura Aquatic Center for the first time since their exhibition Alumni game on Aug. 31, the VC men's water polo team battled in their 15-11 defeat against Cuesta. Thomas Shea led the Pirate effort with three goals in the game while Evan Augusta scored twice with two assists and two steals.

The VC men's water polo split two more games Saturday at the San Diego Miramar Tournament, bringing their weekend mark to 2-2. The Pirates defeated the hosts 18-9 in the first match of the day before falling to Grossmont 21-15 in the nightcap. Owen Patterson led VC (3-5) with six goals, eight steals and five drawn exclusions and Erik Schwartz netted five scores with a pair of drawn exclusions. Thomas Shea scored four goals with a pair of steals.
