Men's Tennis Advances in SoCal Playoffs

The Ventura College men's tennis team advanced in the 3C2A Southern California Playoffs Tuesday with a 5-1 victory over San Diego City at the VC Tennis Center. Shingo Ono won in No. 2 doubles with partner Victor Peyrebonne and clinched the match with his win on Court 6 in singles play. Yanis Guerrout and Ariitea Cotti-Helme also won in doubles with Cotti-Helme and Yusen Sato producing victories in singles.

Guerrout and Cotti-Helme won the first point of the day for Ventura (14-9) with an 8-2 win in No. 3 doubles. Ono and Peyrebonne followed with an 8-4 win on Court 4. Caua Coimbra and Abladj Mondroha dropped their No. 1 doubles contest 8-4 as the Pirates led the Knights 2-1 heading to singles play.

The No. 4-seeded Pirates were never really threatened in singles play with Cotti-Helme producing a 6-1, 6-1 win on Court 5 to extend the VC lead. Sato won his No. 3 singles match love and 1 before Ono clinched victory with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph in the No. 6 slot. Peyrebonne and Guerrout were also ahead in Nos. 2 and 4 singles, respectively, when the match was won.

The No. 4-seeded Pirates will next head to No. 1 Irvine Valley for a regional semifinal match-up on Tuesday Apr. 14.
