2023 Ventura College Men's Tennis Team News
Ventura College student athletes excelled once again in the classroom in 2022-23, achieving an overall 3.29 grade point average in the fall and following that up with a 3.19 overall GPA in the spring semester. A total of 108 Pirates achieved a 3.5 GPA or higher, earning mention on the Dean's List in the fall 2022 term while taking in 12 or more units of study, with 53 student athletes recording a perfect 4.0 GPA. In spring 2023, 110 VC student athletes were named on the Dean's List with 45 posting perfect GPA's.
With an overall team grade point average of 3.71 during the spring semester, the Ventura College men's tennis team is one of eight programs nationally, and the only squad in California, to be honored as an All-Academic Team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Additionally, the Pirates have eight individuals who have been named ITA Scholar Athletes. Only 11 men's tennis student athletes from California were honored by the national coaches' association.
The VC men's tennis team is well represented on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's CCCAA All-American team. Jinsei Tajima and Santino Serralonga each earned All-American nods in singles play for the 2023 season while Tajima and Philemon Jabin were named All-Americans in doubles.
The Ventura College men's tennis team went 6-0 in Western State Conference match play, winning 52 of 54 match-ups en route to the 2023 conference title. That dominance was reflected with seven Pirates earning All-WSC accolades, including co-MVP awards for Jinsei Tajima and Santino Serralonga. Philemon Jabin, Valentino Oggero and Julian Tellez also earned first team All-WSC awards in singles while Lucas Abreau and Eduardo Gorgonio Criscuolo joined with first team accolades in doubles.
The VC men's tennis doubles team of Jinsei Tajima and Philemon Jabin finished a stellar two-year career with the Pirates by claiming the silver medal in the CCCAA State Doubles Tournament completed Sunday at The Ojai Tournament. The duo won their semifinal match in the morning before falling in a supertiebreaker in the afternoon at Libbey Park in Ojai.

The VC men's tennis team had another undefeated run come to an end Saturday with a 6-1 setback Saturday at College of the Desert in the Southern California Regional Final. Jinsei Tajima and Philemon Jabin won their No. 1 doubles match for the lone point for VC (15-1) as their team season comes to an end in Palm Desert for the second straight year.
The No. 2-seeded Ventura College men's tennis team continued their post-season run with a 5-1 victory over No. 3 Riverside on Tuesday at the VC Tennis Center. Santino Serralonga and Jinsei Tajima each were double-winners on the day in helping the Pirates advance to the Southern California Regional Finals.
The VC men's tennis team was dominant Tuesday in their 5-0 playoff victory over visiting Orange Coast. Valentino Oggero and Santino Serralonga had the biggest margin of victory in doubles in their No. 2 slot while Julian Tellez blanked his opponent in No. 6 singles in the win.
Coming off the program's sixth Western State Conference championship in the past seven years, the VC men's tennis team has been awarded the No. 2 seed in the Southern California Regional playoffs beginning Tuesday April 11. The Pirates (13-0), coming off their second straight undefeated regular season, will host No. 7 (8) Orange Coast at the VC Tennis Center beginning at 2:00 pm Tuesday.

The Pirates' men's tennis team defeated Bakersfield 8-1 on the road Monday in a make-up contest. Jinsei Tajima, Philemon Jabin and Julian Tellez were all double winners for Ventura (13-0, 6-0) as they stretched their regular-season winning streak to 45 matches over community college competition dating back to 2019. VC also finished off an undefeated Western State Conference season, moving their WSC win streak to 21 matches, also dating back to 2019.
