VC Pirates Blank OCC Pirates in Playoffs

The VC men's tennis team was dominant Tuesday in their 5-0 playoff victory over visiting Orange Coast. Valentino Oggero and Santino Serralonga had the biggest margin of victory in doubles in their No. 2 slot while Julian Tellez blanked his opponent in No. 6 singles in the win.

The No. 2-seeded VC Pirates (14-0) raced out to a 3-0 lead in doubles play. Oggero and Serralonga posted Ventura's first point with their 8-1 triumph in the No. 2 match. Eduardo Gorgonio Criscuolo and Lucas Abreau followed with an 8-4 win in No. 3 doubles before Jinsei Tajima and Philemon Jabin produced an 8-4 victory in the No. 1 slot.

Ventura continued its strong play in singles. Julian Tellez won his No. 6 match love and love before Abreau finished off the OCC Pirates with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4. Jabin was ahead 6-0, 5-0 in No. 3, Serralonga led 6-0 in the No. 2 match, 5-2, Oggero was up 6-1, 2-1 in the No. 5 slot and Tajima was ahead in the top singles match 6-2, 0-1 when VC clinched victory.

Ventura will next host No. 3-seeded Riverside on Tuesday April 18 at the VC Tennis Center. The Tigers defeated Santa Barbara 5-0 on Tuesday. Doubles play is scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm.
