Pirate Tennis Defeats Hornets, 8-1

The Pirates' men's tennis team scored another convincing triumph Friday, defeating visiting Fullerton 8-1 at the VC Tennis Center. Julian Tellez and Jared Gillespie were double winners against the Hornets, teaming up to win No. 2 doubles before prevailing in Nos. 2 and 3 singles, respectively. Jinsei Tajima and Philemon Jabin claimed the No. 1 doubles match while Eduardo Gorgonio Criscuolo, and Martin Guyot also won in singles.

Jinsei and Jabin along with Tellez and Gillespie each produced 8-0 shutouts in Nos. 1 and 2 doubles. VC also won the No. 3 doubles match by default.

In singles, VC produced four love and love wins. Tellez recorded the shutout in the No. 2 slot and Gillespie blanked his opponent at No. 3. Criscuolo and Guyot also had 6-0, 6-0 wins at nos. 4 and 5 singles. Ventura won the No. 6 singles match by default to complete the 8-1 victory.

Ventura next hosts Santa Barbara on Thursday Feb. 9 at 2:00 pm.
