Sophomore defensive end Jesse Lemonaire was named the Southern California Football Association Northern Conference Defensive Player of the Year, and head coach Steve Mooshagian was named the Coach of the Year, leading a score of Pirates honored by the Northern Conference in post-season awards. Lemonaire, the Hialeah, Fla. product, was a dominant force for the VC defense with 78 tackles, including 18.5 stops behind the line of scrimmage, and 8.5 quarterback sacks this year while Mooshagian mentored the Pirates to their fourth straight conference title.

VC Can't Find Breakthrough in SCFA Playoffs

The Pirate football team got off to a great start in Saturday's Southern California Football Association semifinal at Riverside. They forced a 3-and-out on the opening possession, had a strong opening drive, and forced the Tigers into two turnovers. Unfortunately, third-seeded VC (8-3) scored field goals instead of touchdowns and No. 2 Riverside took advantage in posting a 49-33 playoff victory.

Pirate Football Secures 4-Peat With Victory Over Bakersfield

The stage was set. With the Pirates ahead 41-31 with just inside three minutes remaining, a VC field goal would force Bakersfield to score two touchdowns to complete a miraculous comeback. Ventura would be close to clinching the game and their fourth straight SCFA Northern Conference title. But close was not good enough. As Cooper Garcia prepared for his 44-yard field goal, Ventura head coach Steve Mooshagian had something else in mind. On the snap of the ball, right end Trevon Lambert ran across the formation, receiving a shuffle pass from holder Connor MacArthur. He sprinted around the left end and raced untouched 27 yards nto the end zone for a Pirate touchdown, sealing the 4-peat for VC.

Pirate running back Tyrese Gholar had 67 yards on 12 carries and two touchdowns Saturday in VC's victory over Cerritos.
