Pirate Student Athletes Strong in the Classroom

Ventura College student athletes excelled once again in the classroom in 2021-22, achieving an overall 3.26 grade point average in the fall and following that up with a solid 3.19 overall GPA in the spring.  A total of 123 Pirates earned Dean's List honors in the fall of 2021 with a 3.5 GPA or better while taking in 12 or more units of study, with 51 student athletes recording a perfect 4.0 GPA. In the spring, 112 VC student athletes were featured on the Dean's List with 41 posting perfect GPA's.

The Pirate men finished 12th overall at the CCCAA State Championships Saturday in Fresno while the women came in 14th as a team. Stina Johansson finished thrid in the women's race and Isaiah Slagboom led the Pirate men in40th place.
Stina Runs 3rd, VC Men, Women, 12th, 14th at State Championships

VC sophomore Stina Johansson completed a stellar season finishing third at the CCCAA State Cross Country Championships Saturday at Woodward Park in Fresno. Her efforts led the VC women to a 14th place finish overall. Meanwhile, the Pirate men came in 12th place as a team, behind a 40th place finish by Isaiah Slagboom.

The VC men's and women's cross country teams have both qualified to compete at the CCCAA State Championships on Nov. 19 in Fresno. This is the first time since 2017 that both Pirate teams will compete in the final meet ofthe season.
Men's and Women's Corss Country Qualifies for State

For the first time since 2017, both the men's and women's cross country teams have qualified for the CCCAA State Championships. The Pirate men finished 10th on Friday and the women were 12th at the Southern California Championships in Fountain Valley, sending both teams to Fresno in two weeks. Stina Johansson came in second overall for the women while Isaiah Slagboom led the men, finishing in 24th place overall.

With the fall seasons in full swing, and basketball getting ready to begin, the Ventura College Athletic Department would like to remind spectators about Covid policies and procedures if you are going to come support the Pirates in person. Please use the following guide when attending VC home athletics events.

Ventura College sophomore Alexandra Sanchez ran a 20:33 5k on Friday, placing 22nd overall at the Western State Conference Championships in South El Monte. The Pirate women qualified for the SoCal Regionals placing sixth overall while the men also qualified for the post-season placing fourth.
Men's and Women's Cross Country Qualify for Regionals

Both the Ventura College men's and women's cross country teams qualified for the SoCal Regionals on Friday with strong showings at the Western State Conference Championships. Running at Legg Lake Park in South El Monte, the Pirate men were fourth overall in the conference while the women came in sixth. Stina Johansson led the women with a runner-up finish on the 5k course while Isaiah Slagboom was the lead Pirate for the men placing 7th over 4 miles.

Pirate Cross Country Competes at WSC Preview

Getting closer to a full contingent of runners, the VC men's and women's cross country teams ran in the Western State Conference Preview Friday at Moorpark College. Isaiah Slagboom made his VC debut finishing fifth overall in the men's race leading Ventura to a fourth-place finish as a team. Stina Johansson paced the women finishing second overall.

VC sophomore Stina Johansson ran an 18:19 5k in her Pirate debut, finishing eighth in the Women's Open Division at the UC Riverside Invitational on Saturday.
VC Harriers Run In UC Riverside Invitational

With a small group of runners, the Pirates' men's and women's cross country teams had some impressive debut performances at the UC Riverside Invitational Saturday. Stina Johansson was the lone female competitor Saturday for VC, placing eighth overall in the Open Division race, first among community college runners.. For the men, Joshua Weinerth and Alex Canales also made their orange and black debut, coming in 55th and 77th, respectively, sixth and eighth among 2-year competitors.

Ventura freshman Ramiro Mateos led a small contingent of Pirates finishing in 36th place overall out of 115 runners at the Fresno Invitational Saturday.
Pirate Cross Country Opens Season in Fresno

The Pirates' men's cross country team opened the 2021 season with a small contingent at the Fresno Invitational Saturday morning. Ventura ran four athletes in the race and did not qualify for a team score, but still had some solid individual performances. Ramiro Mateos led VC, finishing in 36th place out of 115 runners while Sahit Jimenez followed in 43rd.

VC's Fall Sports Returns to Competition

Ventura College's fall sports return to competition on Friday August 27. When the Pirate volleyball team takes the court against Monterey Peninsula at 12:30 pm in the LA Mission Kickoff Classic it will mark the Pirates' first official fall sports contest in 21 months. The VC women's soccer team opens its 2021 season on Sunday Aug. 29 at Mt. San Antonio College beginning a full week of games in Pirate Athletics' return.
