WPolo Has Eight Honored

Eight Pirates have earned All-Western State Conference distinction in women's water polo for 2013. In voting held recently by conference coaches, three players were named first-team All-WSC, three were listed as second-team, and another pair earned honorable mention nods. Sophomores Ashley Runyon and Molly Watkins headed the first-team list for VC along with freshman Lauren McCaslin.

WPolo Season Ends in Playoffs

It is never easy to lose in the playoffs and that was the case again Thursday as the Pirates' women's water polo team, seeded No. 10 in the Southern California Regional Playoffs, dropped a 15-8 decision to the No. 7 Orange Coast Pirates on Thursday afternoon in Cerritos. Cecily Loya, Lauren McCaslin, and Scarlett Lund-Sidi all scored two goals for VC (17-10-1) and Molly Watkins had 11 saves for the Pirates of the North in the loss.

VC Polo Headed to Playoffs

The Pirates' men's and women's water polo team have both received at-large bids for the Southern California Regional Playoffs beginning Thursday Nov. 14 at Cerritos College. The VC men (14-14), runner-up finishers in the Western State Conference Tournament over the weekend, have received the No. 9 seed and will play No. 8 Mt. San Antonio College (18-10) at 1:15 pm. Meanwhile the Pirate women (18-9) received the No. 10 seed and will take on No. 7 Orange Coast (11-10) at 2:30 pm.

The Ventura College Women's Water Polo Team placed third at the Western State Conference Tournament over the weekend at Santa Monica College.  They await the announcement of the SoCal regional Playoffs to see if they will play in the postseason.
Women's Polo Takes 3rd at WSC

Splitting a pair of matches on Friday, and winning one on Saturday, the VC women's water polo team placed third at the Western State Conference Tournament over the weekend in Santa Monica. Lauren McCaslin paced the Pirate offense with eight goals in the three matches while Jerilyn Hollis found the back of the net five times. Scarlett Lund-Sidi had five assists while Molly Watkins turned back 19 shots in goal for Ventura (18-10-1).

Cecily Loya scored four goals in VC's 16-2 win over East LA Friday afternoon.  The Pirates also defeated San Diego Miramar 8-4 in a morning match at the Pasadena Mini.
Pirates Win Two at PCC Mini

The Ventura College women's water polo team made it eight victories in their last nine matches with a pair of wins at the Pasadena Mini on Friday. VC defeated San Diego Miramar 8-4 in the morning match before routing East Los Angeles 16-2 in the afternoon affair. Lauren McCaslin scored six goals on the day with a pair of assists while Molly Watkins turned back 27 shots in goal. Cecily Loya had four goals for the Pirates (16-9-1, 3-2).

Women's Polo Falls at Valley

In their regular-season conference finale, the Pirates' women's water polo team dropped a 9-6 decision at Los Angeles Valley Wednesday afternoon. Ashley Runyon scored a goal with two assists and drew one ejection while Lauren McCaslin scored four goals with three drawn ejections. Christina Tellez also scored a goal with one assist for the Pirates (14-9-1, 3-2).

VC Women 4-0 at the Beach

Stretching their winning streak to six matches, the Ventrua College women's water polo team completed a perfect 4-0 slate at the Battle at the Beach Tournament hosted by Long Beach City College Saturday with a pair of wine, 11-6 over Cuesta and 11-7 against Cerritos. Ashley Runyon continued her strong weekend with five goals and five assists and Lauren McCaslin netted six goals with an assist and a pair of steals for VC (14-8-1, 3-1). Molly Watkins had a great day in goal with 28 saves in the two matches.

Pirate Polo Wins Two Matches

The Pirates' women's water polo team won a pair of matches to begin the Battle at the Beach Tournament hosted by Long Beach City College on Friday. VC came from behind to defeat Southwestern 12-9 in the morning match before coming back and dominating Rio Hondo 18-10 in the afternoon. Ashley Runyon netted eight goals in the two matches with five assists while Lauren McCaslin scored seven goals with four assists and four steals. Vanessa Vega turned back 31 shots in goal for VC (12-8-1, 3-1).

Women's Polo Defeats Corsairs

Behind a strong first quarter, the Pirates' women's water polo team posted a 7-5 victory over Santa Monica Tuesday afternoon at the Ventura Aquatic Center. Playing her final home match for VC (10-8-1, 3-1), sophomore Jerilyn Hollis scored three goals while drawing one ejection and two 5m shots with a pair of steals on defense. Ashley Runyon, Brittany McWaid, Lauren McCaslin, and Sarah Shah also netted scores for Ventura. Vanessa Vega recorded nine saves in goal.

Pirate Women Win OT Thriller

The Pirates' women's water polo team returned to Western State Conference play with a thrilling 4-3 overtime victory at Citrus College Wednesday afternoon. Brittany McWaid had a pair of goals and a steal for VC (9-8-1, 2-1) while Ashley Runyon and Jerilyn Hollis each scored a goal with an assist. Molly Watkins recorded 21 saves in goal during the match.

WPolo 1-1 to Finish VC Tourney

In completing the Ventura Tournament Saturday at the Ventura Aquatic Center, the Pirates' women's water polo team posted a 1-1 record, defeating El Camino 11-6 in the morning before closing the weekend with a 10-3 loss to Fullerton. Lauren McCaslin led VC (8-8-1) with four goals, seven steals, and seven drawn ejections in the two matches while Scarlett Lund-Sidi scored three times with a pair of assists and two steals.

VC Splits Two Close Matches

Hosting the Ventura Tournament, the Pirates' women's water polo team split a pair of matches Friday at the Ventura Aquatic Center. VC (6-6-1) defeated Cypress 11-10 in the morning contest before falling 8-7 to Chaffey in the nightcap. Sophomore Ashley Runyon recorded four goals, three assists, six steals, and three drawn ejections on the day while Brittany McWaid and Lauren McCaslin also netted four scores each. Molly Watkins registered 27 saves on the day.

Pirate Comeback Falls Short

 It was a tale of two halves Wednesday at he Ventura Aquatic Center, as the VC women's water polo team fell behind early, made a furious second half comeback to tie the score late, only to fall in the final minutes to Los Angeles Pierce College 10-9. Lauren McCaslin scored three goals with three steals while Ashley Runyon had a pair of scores, six assists and two steals. Cecily Loya also registered a pair of goals and Molly Watkins had 12 saves in goal for the Pirates (5-5-1).

Women's Polo Ties Alumnae

Maybe it was fitting for a contest that had the feel of an exhibition rather than a regular match. The Ventura College women's water polo team tied a team of VC alumnae 11-11 Saturday at the Ventura Aquatic Center. Lauren McCaslin led the current Pirates with three goals and an assist while Justine Legapasi and Jerilyn Hollis each scored twice. Cecily Loya recorded three steals on defense while Vanessa Vega had eight saves on the day.

Pirates Open WSC With Win

After a slow start, the Pirates' women's water polo team used a six goal explosion in the second quarter to take charge of the visiting Cuesta Cougars in their 12-5 victory to open Western State Conference play Wednesday at the Ventura Aquatic Center. Brittany McWaid had three goals, three assists and two steals for the Pirates (5-4, 1-0) while Christina Tellez also found the back of the net three times in the win.

The Pirates' women's water polo team placed second at the Chaffey Tournament.  After two wins on Friday, they defeated East LA on Saturday before falling to Riverside.
VC Women Place Second

With a strong early season performance, the Pirates' women's water polo team brought home second place from the Chaffey Tournament Saturday, routing East Los Angeles 17-3 before falling to Riverside 15-5. Ashley Runyon netted seven goals in the two matches while Lauren McCaslin scored four times. Molly Watkins had eight saves against undefeated Riverside, and Christina Tellez grabbed five steals against East LA for the Pirates (4-4).
