VC Volleyball Sweeps Past Glendale
The Ventura College volleyball team had an easy time with visiting Glendale Wednesday, sweeping past the Vaqueros 25-8, 25-18, 25-18. Addison Olson hit 10 kills and Madison Mierau had nine to lead the Pirates while Jocelyn Alfar and Daphne Raymond recorded six and five winners at the net, respectively. Valeria Ibarra handed out 24 assists and Presley Ballengee dropped 10 helpers. Chelsea Torres recorded 10 digs defensively.

Josephine Rausch opened the scoring with a pair of aces, and Olson's winner put VC ahead 5-2 in the first set. The Pirates overmatched the Vaqueros in the opener as Raymond recorded her first kill to put Ventura ahead 17-6. Mierau had a winner and Lane hit an ace for a 20-7 margin and the Pirates took the first set, 25-9.
Shai Daniels' ace gave VC a 3-0 lead in the second set, and Callie Cahill recorded her first kill of the evening for a 6-3 edge. Although Glendale kept the set close, the Pirates were never really threatened as winners from Lane and Cahill extended the lead to 17-12. Mierau's kill gave Ventura the second set 25-18.
Alfar came up big for VC in the third set, hitting back-to-back winners to put the Pirates ahead 13-6. Ventura continued the run to go ahead 18-7 and Olson's kill maintained the advantage, 20-9. Olson came back with a block at the net for a 22-10 score, and Ventura closed out the match with a 25-18 set triumph.
Olson continued her hot streak hitting .600 on the night and Rausch had four aces and hit .750 at the net in limited action. Daniels recorded eight digs defensively while Mierau and Alfar each had seven digs.
Ventura will open Western State Conference action on Friday Sept. 26 at Cuesta.
