Pirate volleyball opens 2025 with sweep
The VC volleyball team started the Pirates' 2025-26 athletics year in fine fashion Friday with a 3-0 sweep at Imperial Valley College Friday. Shai Daniels and Callie Cahill led the balanced attack with seven kills each while Josephine Rausch added six winners and 12 digs on defense. Valeria Ibarra and Monaye Ramessar each handed out 16 assists in the Pirate victory.

Ventura (1-0) raced out to a 25-16 win in the opening set before holding off the Desert Warriors 25-22 in the second. The Pirates closed out the win with a 25-13 third set triumph.
VC had six players with 5+ kills in the match, including Addison Olson, who led the team with a .571 hitting percentage, Taylor Lane and Daphne Raymond each with five. Sadie Lishman and Ibarra each hit three service aces while Olson and Raymond each recorded three blocks at the net.
The Pirates continue their season-opening road trip on Saturday Aug. 23 at Mt. San Jacinto. Their home opener will be Friday Aug. 29 against Orange Coast.
