Pirate Women Earn Academic Accolades from ITA

The Ventura College women's tennis team earned All-Academic Team honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for the 2026 season. The Pirates were one of 12 JUCO women's tennis teams from around the country, six from California, recognized by the ITA for academic excellence. Additionally, VC had six student athletes awarded Scholar Athlete awards for outstanding individual accomplishment in the classroom.

Sophomores, Sherry Bonilla, Kira Branson, Dulce Contreras, Isabella DeRosa and Chandra Padua, and freshman Isabella Avila all posted above a 3.2 grade point average to earn ITA Scholar Athlete accolades.

Within the sport of tennis, student-athletes continue to exceed expectations in the classroom and on the court. In 2026, 81 JUCO Women's student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, and 12 women's tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction.

To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, one must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) for the current academic year and be listed on the institutional eligibility form.

To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.0 scale) with all student-athletes included should be listed on the institutional eligibility form, and all varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the academic year.

Ventura closed their season with their second straight post-season appearance, their third in the past four seasons. Branson competed in the 3C2A State Championships in singles at The Ojai Tournament while Branson and Padua, Contreras and DeRosa, and Bonilla and Ella Morgan qualified for The Ojai in doubles.
