Women's Soccer earns first victory of the season
The VC women's soccer team earned their first victory of the young season Friday on AYSO Night at the Sportsplex. Jennifer Ramirez scored twice in the first helf to help lead the Pirates to a 3-1 win over El Camino. Jazzy Moreno recorded a goal and an assist and Janessah Gonzalez turned back six Warrior shots in goal for Ventura (1-3-2).

Jennifer Ramirez scored twice in the first half to help lead the Pirates to a 3-1 win over El Camino. Jazzy Moreno recorded a goal and an assist and Janessah Gonzalez turned back six Warrior shots in goal for Ventura (1-3-2).
Ramirez scored quickly, finding the back of the goal in the second minute off an assist from Moreno.
In the 28th minute, Klarissa Melgoza had a killer no-look pass to Ramirez, who dribbled around the El Camino goal keeper to slot in the shot for the 2-0 advantage.
El Camino halved the VC lead with a successful penalty kick in the 36th minute and the score remained 2-1 at halftime. The Pirates were most definitely on the offensive in the initial 45 minutes with a season-best 10 shots, five on goal.
Early in the second half, Bella Shipman hit a great cross from outside the right wing that Moreno settled and sent into the net to set the final 3-1 margin.
The Pirates ended the game with 16 shots total, seven on frame. Meanwhile, El Camino had eight shots, two on goal.
Other outstanding performances were turned in by Alondra Sanchez and Samantha Quinonez.
Ventura next travels to Cerritos on Tuesday Sept. 16.
