2021 Ventura College Women's Soccer Team News
Ventura College student athletes excelled once again in the classroom in 2021-22, achieving an overall 3.26 grade point average in the fall and following that up with a solid 3.19 overall GPA in the spring. A total of 123 Pirates earned Dean's List honors in the fall of 2021 with a 3.5 GPA or better while taking in 12 or more units of study, with 51 student athletes recording a perfect 4.0 GPA. In the spring, 112 VC student athletes were featured on the Dean's List with 41 posting perfect GPA's.
The Ventura College women's soccer team swept the top awards in the post-season All-Western State Conference awards voted on by conference coaches in November. Alix Tirado was named the Offensive Most Valuable Player and Ashley Tiscareno earned the Defensive MVP award. Meanwhile coach Steve Hoffman was named the Coach of the Year after directing the Pirates to their 17th WSC crown in his 26-year tenure with the program.
Ventura College forward Alix Tirado scored her 27th goal of the season in the 53rd minute of the game Tuesday at Saddleback to bring the Pirates to within 3-2, but VC could not find an equalizer in the final 35 minutes, falling to the Bobcats in the second round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs in Mission Viejo. Ventura goalie Kambria Haughton had an excellent game, keeping the Pirates within striking distance with six saves against the No. 2 seed in the bracket.
On a chilly November night at the VC Sportsplex, Jennifer Ramirez hit a crossing pass right to left across the penalty box to Alix Tirado, whose one-touch shot rolled inside the near post for the game-winning goal as the Pirates' women's soccer team advanced in the Southern California Regional Playoffs with a 1-0 victory over Los Angeles Perce on Saturday. VC's 26th minute score withstood the test of time as Kambria Haughton had a pair of saves and the Ventura defense posted the shutout win to move forward in the bracket.
The Ventura College women's soccer team finds itself in familiar surroundings as they have been seeded No. 7 in the Southern California Regional Playoffs, the program's 24th post-season appearance in 25 seasons under head coach Steve Hoffman. Ventura (15-3-3) will open the playoffs at home on Saturday Nov. 20 against Western State Conference foe and No. 11-seed Los Angeles Pierce (11-4-4). Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm at the VC Sportsplex.

Julie Marcelo, Jennifer Ramirez, Alix Tirado and Justice Jones all scored goals for the Pirates (13-2-3, 7-0-2), who stretched their unbeaten streak to 12 games. Kambria Haughton recorded the shutout in goal.
