Ventura Drops WSC Opener
The VC women's basketball team dropped its Western State Conference North Division Opener at Moorpark Saturday afternoon. Sam McKenzie led the Pirate effort with 10 points and four assists while Alanna Topete netted nine. Alexa Coubal scored eight points with 14 rebounds in the 100-47 setback to the Raiders.

The VC women's basketball team dropped its Western State Conference North Division Opener at Moorpark Saturday afternoon. Sam McKenzie led the Pirate effort with 10 points and four assists while Alanna Topete netted nine. Alexa Coubal scored eight points with 14 rebounds in the 100-43 setback to the Raiders.
Ventura took a 3-2 lead early on McKenzie's 3-pointer before Moorpark took control of the contest. Turnovers were the Pirates' achilles heel in the minutes that followed as MC led at the end of the first quarter 28-8.
Ventura never got untracked as they trailed 52-24 at halftime and 72-40 after three quarters of play.
The Pirates will look to bounce back on Wednesday Jan. 15 hosting Santa Barbara at 5:00 pm at the Athletic Event Center.
