Basketball Returns to Ventura College
When we last left the VC women's basketball team, they were walking off the floor at Cerritos College last March, state championship trophy in hand. Basketball makes its return to the Athletic Event Center, for the first time under seven state banners, as the Pirates tip off the 2014-15 season with the Ventura Jamboree this weekend.
The Jamboree is a pre-season event, technically a non-traditional season event per CCCAA guidelines, in which teams can play two scrimmage games per day for two days. The Pirates will be hosting 23 teams from throughout Southern California for 46 games on three courts through 24 hours of play on Saturday and Sunday. Games begin both days at 9:00 am and will continue throughout the day, with the final games scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm.
The new-look Pirates will play at 3:00pm and 5:40 pm both days in the main gym of the AEC. VC takes on Fullerton in the opener Saturday, followed by Bakersfield. Sunday Ventura will play 2014 playoff foes Santa Ana and Long Beach.
Admission is free to the event.
