WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Ventura College Women's Basketball is proud to announce the transfers of five sophomores from the 2012-13 Western State Conference championship team to four-year schools. Four of the five also plan to play basketball at their next stop of their academic career. Imani Dixon and Ashanti Sweezer have signed scholarships with NCAA Division II Cal State Dominguez Hills and Gabbi King has signed a scholarship with Montreat College in North Carolina. Eda Graham will be transferring to NCAA Division III Occidental College and Hanna Burge will be a Regents Scholar at UCLA in the fall. In 23 years under head coach Ned Mircetic, 111 players, including the five from this season, have transferred to four-year institutions.
Sweezer, who was a first-team All-WSC honoree, and Dixon, who was named Honorable Mention All-WSC, both have signed scholarships to play for Coach Molly Goodenbour at CSU-Dominguez Hills. They will have two years of eligibility with the Toros. Meanwhile King will join former VC teammate Regan Mew '12 with coach Craig Jackson at the Montreat, an NAIA school in western North Carolina.
Graham, an Academic All-State student her freshman year (and a probable award winner for 2012-13 as well), transfers to Occidental College in Eagle Rock for coach Anahit Aladzhanyan. Burge, who was also an Academic All-State honoree in 2012 (and a probably 2013 honoree as well), turned down a basketball scholarship from Westmont College to head to Westwood. A two-time first-team All-WSC performer, Burge is considering trying out for a walk-on spot with the Bruin basketball team.
