Richards, Salter, Men's 4x100 Qualify for Regional Finals
VC's Brianna Richards ran an easy sixth place in the 1500m run, and Ja'Varien Salter had a solid race in the 200m dashin Saturday's 3C2A Southern California Regional Prelims in Bakersfield, both moving to next week's regional finals. The men's 4x100m elay team of Makaio Thompson, Max Daniel, Salter and Jeremiah Penny also qualified for the regional finals in competition Saturday.

The men's 4x100m relay team of Makaio Thompson, Max Daniel, Salter and Jeremiah Penny also qualified for the regional finals in competition Saturday.
Richards ran a 4:55.20, well off her personal best set at the Western State Conference Championships, but still easily advanced in sixth position in the 1500m run for the Pirates. Salter, meanwhile, turned in a 21.49 in the 200m to come in seventh, qualifying for the finals by .07 seconds.
The men's 4x100m relay team turned in a time of 42.28 to move forward in eighth place. The prelims in this event were razor close with 1.5 seconds separating first place from 13th.
Ty Brown competed for the Pirates in the 110m and 400m hurdles, missing the regional finals in the 110 hurdles by less than a second. Penny also competed in the 100m dash. Mateo Chavez and Abraham Salinas competed in the shot put and hammer throw, respectively.
Meanwhile, the women's 4x100m relay team of Kelsey Crist, Avery Wells, Leia Ludy and Honest Watson missed qualifying my less than 1.5 seconds. Richards also ran in the 800m, missing the finals by less than four seconds. Alyna Renteria competed for the Ventura women in both the javelin and discus while Ariel Montejano threw in the javelin.
The Pirates will next return to the SoCal Regional Championships on Saturday May 9 in Bakersfield.
