VC track and field qualifies athletes for SoCal Prelims
The VC men's and women's track and field teams qualified a number of athletes for the 3C2A Southern California Preliminaries at the Western State Conference Championships Friday at Moorpark. Brianna Richards was the top qualifier for the Pirate women finishing second in the 800m run while the men's 4x400m relay team of Ty Brown, Luke Carnaghe, Jeremiah Penny and Ja'Varien Salter also ran second. The VC men were sixth place overall in the conference standings while he women finished eighth.

Richards ran a 2:19.49 in the 800m to finish second by less than a second. She also qualified for SoCal's with a fourth place finish in the 1500m run.
VC's women's 4x100m relay team of Kelsey Crist, Avery Wells, Leia Ludy and Honest Watson came in fifth at the WSC finals and Ariel Montejano was sixth in the javelin. Alyna Renteria qualified for the regional prelims by finishing seventh in the discus.
Meanwhile, Brown, Carnaghe, Penny and Salter ran a 3:20.82 in the 4x400 relay, barely missing out on the gold medal. Makaio Thompson, Max Daniel, Salter and Penny claimed bronze n the 4x100m relay, finishing .28 seconds behind the first place quartet.
Salter also ran fourth in the 200m and sixth in the 100m and Penny was seventh in the 100m. Ty Brown crossed the finish line fifth in the 110m hurdles and sixth in the 400m hurdles while Carnaghe was fifth in the 400m hurdles. Aaron Giron ran sixth in the 110m hurdles.
In the field, Mateo Chavez came in fourth in the shot put while Abraham Salinas was fifth in the hammer throw.
The Pirates will next compete in the 3C2A Southern California Preliminaries on Saturday May 2 at Bakersfield College.
