Pirate Track & Field Sending Six to SoCal Finals
The VC men's and women's track and field teams are sending six individuals to the 3C2A Southern California Regional Finals next week following the preliminaries Saturday at Saddleback College. Four men and two women will compete in the finals, with one women's relay team as an alternate for the penultimate meet of the season. Cole Everett, Trevor McCarthy, Max Daniel and Caleb Marzette will compete for the men while Brianna Torres and Ashley Crist will compete for the women.

Torres (Oxnard) ran the fourth-best time in VC history to finish second in the 10,000m run, advancing to the 3C2A State Championships in two weeks. She was in fifth place with three laps remaining in the 25-lap race, working her way back to the runner-up position at the finish line. She will also compete in the 5,000m run in next week's regional finals.
A. Crist (Foothill Tech), meanwhile, qualified 12th in the long jump, moving forward to next week's finals. She was also 15th in the triple jump competition.
The women's 4x100m relay team of Kelsey Crist (Foothill Tech), Leshelle Lee (Channel Islands), A. Crist and Chloe Williams (Buena) ran in 10th place in the preliminaries and will be the first alternate in the finals should a team scratch from next week's race.
Williams also came in 19th in the 100m and 15th in the 200m while Lee was 24th in the 100m.
For the men, Western State Conference high jump champion Cole Everett took care of business and moved forward to next week's final.
Meanwhile, McCarthy (St. Bonaventure suffered an injury in the 4x100m relay, but was able to limp to the javelin and take standing throws and qualify for the finals.
Max Daniel (Buena) ran a lifetime best in the 100m to qualify eighth and Caleb Marzette (Oxnard) also set a personal record to qualify in ninth.
Unfortunately, VC's 4x100m relay team of Marzette, McCarthy, Micah Contreras (Camarillo) and Daniel did not qualify for the finals after McCarthy's injury.
Shaun Tolson (Oxnard) came in 15th in the 400m and 25th in the 200m while Camren Harris (Oxnard) was 26th in the 200m. Contreras was 15th in the 110m hurdles and 12th in the 400m hurdles while Jacson Cutting finished 13th and 27th, respectively, in the hurdle races. Aaron Giron (Oxnard) was 25th in the 400m hurdles and Jerry Ayala was 18th in the hammer throw.
The Pirates will continue competition in the 3C2A Southern California Regional Finals on Saturday May 10, also at Saddleback College.
