Pirates Host WSC Coastal Track & Field Meet

The Pirates' men's and women's track and field teams hosted the Western State Conference Coastal Meet Friday at the VC Sportsplex with the men finishing second and the women fourth of the six competing schools. Trevor McCarthy. Micah Contreras Jacson Cutting and Cole Everett all had gold medal performances for the men and Chloe Williams produced the women's lone first place finish.

McCarthy (St. Bonaventure) wa a double winner on the day. He threw the javelin 196'3", the 10th-best throw in VC history and the third-best in the 3C2A this season, to claim gold. He also ran a 49.60 to win first in the 400m with the 12th-best time in Southern California in 2025.

Contreras (Camarillo) broke the tape in 1:00.21, the 20th best time in the region, to claim first in the 400m hurdles, and also won silver in the 100m and the 110m hurdles. He is currently ranked No. 11 in SoCal in the latter.

Cutting (Camarillo) won first in the 110m hurdles in 15.91, the No. 15-ranked time in SoCal, while winning bronze in the 400m hurdles and placing fifth in the 100m.

Everett (Nordhoff) won the high jump, clearing the bar at 6'0.75" for the No. 12-ranked mark in the region this year.

Shaun Tolson (Oxnard) was second in the 400m, ranking him No. 14 in SoCal, and third in the 200m while Camren Harris (Oxnard) finished fourth in the 100m and fifth in the 200m. Dante Mata-Burney placed in three events, finishing as runner-up in the high jump, finishing fifth in the long jump and sixth in the triple jump. Zac Crist (Foothill Tech) won bronze in the long jump and Liam Genkel (Ventura) claimed silver in the triple jump. Jason Vasquez (Pacifica) was sixth in the shot put and discus while Jerry Ayala won silver in the hammer throw. Nathaniel Lopez (Ventura) ran fifth in the 3000m and Aaron Giron (Oxnard) placed fourth in the 400m hurdles.

Ventura's 4x100m relay A-team of Harris, Tolson, Joseph Moore (Moorpark) and Contreras claimed the bronze while the B-team of Alejandro Gomez (Oxnard), Rodney Hall (Rio Mesa), Cutting and Genkel came in fourth. The 4x400m quartet of McCarthy, Tolson, Cutting and Contreras placed third.

The Pirate men earned 148 points on the day, finishing comfortably in second behind Moorpark (194.5 points) and ahead of Hancock (66 points).

Williams (Buena) broke the tape in 26.36 in the 200m to win gold and also came in fifth in the 100m.  

Meanwhile, Mayagrace Wilson (Agoura) brought home the silver medal in the 100m with the No. 9-ranked time in Southern California.

Ashley Crist (Foothill Tech) won silver in the long jump with the No. 14-ranked mark in SoCal and also came in fifth in the javelin. Amia Cason (Oxnard) won silver in the 100m hurdles with SoCal's No. 12-ranked time. Brianna Torres finished second in the 3000m and Elizabeth Mejia (Oxnard) was second in the 400m hurdles with the 17th-best time in SoCal and came in fourth in the 100m hurdles. Leshelle Lee (Channel Islands) placed fifth in the high jump, Kelsey Crist (Foothill Tech) was fifth in the long jump, and Guadalupe Jimenez (Channel Islands) was fifth in the hammer. 

The VC women earned 64 points on the day, finishing just 10 points behind Santa Barbara and 25.5 points shy of West Los Angeles.

Ventura's track and field teams next compete at the Dave Shannon Invitational at El Camino College on Saturday March 29.
