Marshall, Monroe lead Pirate Swimmers at WSC No. 3
Faith Marshall and Jaiden Monroe led the VC women's and men's swimming and diving teams, respectively, at the Western State Conference meet No. 3 Friday at Santa Monica. Mashall earned a pair of individual golds in the 200-yard breaststroke and 50-yard freestyle events while Monroe won three golds in the 200-yard backstroke and the 100- and 50-yard freestyle races. Olivia Badaracco and Thomas Shea also won events for the Pirates. The VC men won first and the women were second as a team out of five competing schools.
Faith Marshall and Jaiden Monroe led the VC women's and men's swimming and diving teams, respectively, at the Western State Conference meet No. 3 Friday at Santa Monica. Marshall earned a pair of individual golds in the 200-yard breaststroke and 50-yard freestyle events while Monroe won three golds in the 200-yard backstroke and the 100- and 50-yard freestyle races. Marshall touched in 2:29.38 to win the 200-yard breaststroke and posted a mark of 26.13 to win the 50-yard freestyle. Badaracco swam a 2:17.11 in the 200-yard backstroke, claiming gold. Meanwhile, the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Olivia Decierdo, Avery Monson, Marshall and Badaracco posted a time of 4:00.57 to finish first.
Ami Cruz won a silver medal in the 1,650-yard freestyle and Badaracco touched second in the 100-yard free. Marshall, Cruz, Monson and Badaracco were second in the 800-yard freestyle relay.
Decierdo produced a bronze medal performance in the 200-yard individual medley while Alexandria Williams won bronze in the 1m diving competition. Cassandra Wallop, Monson and Decierdo were third, fourth and fifth in the 50-yard free, respectively. Finally, the quartet of Decierdo, Stevie Sturges, Abigail Humphrey and Cruz placed third in the 400-yard medley relay.
The Pirate women finished second of five teams with 122 team points. LA Valley won the meet with 172 points and Santa Monica was third with 99.
Monroe continued his outstanding season with three individual first-place finishes. He earned gold in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:59.82 and touched first in the 100-yard freestyle in 49.16. He also won the 50-yard free with a mark of 22.21. Shea claimed first in the 1m diving event totaling 161.85 points.
Shane Speth won silver in the 400-yard individual medley race while Michael Ramirez was second in the 200-yard IM. Daniel Anguita came in second in the diving event. Ramirez, Speth, Monroe and Shea swam second in the 400-yard medley relay while Matt Williams, Brayden Black, Parker Steen and Ramirez finished in the runner-up spot in the 800-yard freestyle relay.
She also won bronze in the 50-yard freestyle while Jose Lopez was third in the 200-yard butterfly. Parker Steen, Black, Shea and Speth touched in third in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Tyler Haines claimed fourth in the diving and Matt Williams swam fourth in the 1650-yard freestyle.
The Pirate men won the meet with 148 points. LaValley and Santa Monica were second and third with 127 and 119 points, respectively.
The VC swimming and diving teams next travel to the Pasadena Invitational April 2-4.
