Pirates Advance to Cypress Tourney Final
The VC men's water polo team advanced to the Cypress Tournament championship game Saturday by defeating Chaffey before falling to the host Chargers Saturday. Owen Patterson had another solid day with seven goals , four assists and nine steals in the two games while Evan Augusta found the inside of the cage six times with a pair of helpers and three thefts.

The VC men's water polo team advanced to the Cypress Tournament championship game Saturday by defeating Chaffey before falling to the host Chargers. Owen Patterson had another solid day with seven goals , four assists and nine steals in the two games while Evan Augusta found the inside of the cage six times with a pair of helpers and three thefts.
The Pirates (4-1) dominated Chaffey in the opener Saturday, racing to an 8-1 lead at the end of the first quarter and cruising home in the 23-6 triumph.
Augusta led the effort with five goals, two assists and a steal while Patterson contributed four scores, three helpers and five thefts. Boaz Biglin scored three times with a two steals and Patrik Bötkös found the inside of the cage twice and also grabbed a pair of steals. Wyatt Dingman scored once with three assists and three steals while Milos Djanic handed out five dimes.
In the weekend's championship game, VC led Cypress 6-2 after one quarter before the Chargers outscored the Pirates 14-3 over the final three periods.
Patterson was tops with three goals, one assist and four steals and Bötkös scored twice with three drawn ejections. Augusta produced a score with two steals and Dingman dropped three dimes.
Ventura next heads to Huntington Beach on Friday and Saturday Sept. 12 and 13 to play in the Golden West Tournament.
