2024 Ventura College Men's Water Polo Team News
Ventura College student athletes excelled once again in the classroom in 2024-25 with a total of 101 Pirates achieving a 3.5 GPA or higher, earning mention on the Dean's List, in the fall 2024 term while taking in 12 or more units of study, with 46 student athletes recording a perfect 4.0 GPA. In spring 2025, 99 VC student athletes were named on the Dean's List with 44 posting perfect GPA's.
The VC men;s water polo team had three players earn first team All-Western State Conference awards in voting by the conference coaches. Owen Patterson, Evan Augusta and Thomas Shea all earned first-team All-WSC accolades for Ventura.
The VC men's water polo team had a lot to play for on Saturday. With their 15-12 victory over Citrus in the thrid-place game of the Western State Conference Tournament, the Pirates finish their season with a 13-13 overall mark, the program's best finish since 2016. Evan Augusta led the inspired effort with four goals while Samuel Abarca, Michael Soho and Brayden Black all scored twice in the win.Stephen McNaughten turned in 10 saves in the cage for Ventura.
The Pirates' men's water polo team went down swinging Friday, dropping a 23-17 decision to Los Angeles Valley in the semifinal round of the Western State Conference Tournament at Citrus College. Evan Augusta and Owen Patterson each scored four goals in the effort while Michael Soho, Samuel Abarca and Thomas Shea each scored twice. Patterson also had three drawn exclusions and a pair of steals in the game for VC (12-12, 2-3).
The Pirates' men's water polo team left the Día de los Muertos Tournament in Chula Vista witha pair of wins Saturday, defeating San Digeo Miramar 18-4 before outlasting San Diego Mesa 12-10 in the finale. Owen Patterson again led VC (12-11, 2-2) with seven goals on the day while Evan Augusta and Brayden Black each netted five in the two games. Ethan Ortiz totaled eight saves in the cage.

VC fell to Palomar 13-9 in the opener before dropping a 22-13 decision against Grossmont in the nightcap. Thomas Shea led the Pirate effort with three goals in the game while Evan Augusta scored twice with two assists and two steals.

Owen Patterson was dominant in the post with 10 goals and hea added three steals defensively. Evan Augusta handed out six assists while Stephen McNaughton and Ethan Ortiz recorded six and five saves, respectively, in the cage.
The Pirates' men's water polo team raced out to an early 5-0 advantage and never looked back, scoring 19 of the first 20 goals at Crafton Hills Wednesday in Yucaipa. Luigi Travi, Caleb Graffious, Erik Schwartz and Jessie Zepeda all found the inside o fthe cage twice in the victory.

The Pirates defeated the hosts 18-9 in the first match of the day before falling to Grossmont 21-15 in the nightcap. Owen Patterson led VC (3-5) with six goals, eight steals and five drawn exclusions and Erik Schwartz netted five scores with a pair of drawn exclusions. Thomas Shea scored four goals with a pair of steals.
