Pirate Tennis Fallsi in SoCal Semifinals

The VC men's tennis team dropped a 5-0 decision Tuesday in the 3C2A Southern California Playoffs at Irvine Valley. The Pirate doubles teams of Caua Coimbra and Abladj Mondroha, and Yanis Guerrout and Ariitea Cotti-Helme each dropped close matches while Victor Peyrebonne and Guerrout were each up in their singles matches when the Lasers clinched the regional semifinal win.

Ventura, seeded No. 4 in Southern California, dropped all three doubles matches to the defending state champions. Shingo Ono and Peyrebonne dropped the No. 2 slot 8-2 before Coimbra and Mondroha fell on Court 1, 8-6. Guerrout and Cotti-Helme dropped the No. 3 doubles match 8-6.

In singles, the Top-seeded Lasers quickly clinched the match. Coimbra fell in the No. 1 match and Yusen Sato dropped the contest on Court 4, both in straight sets, as the Pirates team season came to an end. Peyrebonne was ahead 6-0, 4-4 in the No. 3 match and Guerrout led 6-2, 1-4 on Court 5 when the match ended.

Ventura (14-10) ended the team season with a 10-4 mark against California Community College teams. Coimbra, Mondroha, Peyrebonne, Sato and Cotti-Helme will play in the 3C2A State Singles Championships at The Ojai Tournament later this month and Peyrebonne and Ono will play in doubles at The Ojai.
