Men's Tennis Begins Play in WSC Championships
The VC men's tennis team began play in the Western State Conference Championships Tuesday at the VC Tennis Center. Abladj Mondroha, Victor Peyrebonne, Yusen Sato, Yanis Guerrout and Ariitea Cotti-Helme all produced victories in the opening round of the 32-player draw. Caua Coimbra received a first-round bye to also move to the Round of 16 to be played Thursday.

Mondroha moved past the Round of 32 with a two-and-love win over a player from Glendale. Peyrebonne won his first-round contest against an opponent from Bakersfield, 6-3, 6-3.
Meanwhile, Sato defeated Glendale 6-1, 6-1 and Guerrout blanked his opponent, also from Glendale. Cotti-Helme was the sixth Pirate to advance with a come-from-behind 2-6, 7-5, 10-7 triumph against a player from Bakersfield.
Shingo Ono had his singles season come to an end with a 6-3, 6-3 setback against Glendale while Manolo Vanbesien also dropped a contest to a player from Glendale, 7-6 (5), 7-4.
Play in the singles draw continues on Thursday Apr. 2 at the Pierpont Racquet Club. The doubles tournament will also begin on Apr. 2.
