Men's Tennis Drop Narrow Decision to APU

The VC men's tennis team competed well, but dropped a narrow 4-3 decision against NCAA Division III Azusa Pacific Monday morning at the VC Tennis Center. After the Cougars swept the Pirates in doubles, Yusen Sato, Yanis Guerrout and Ariitea Cotti-Helme all won their singles matches before VC fell in the final contest of the day.

APU took control of the match early with a doubles sweep for the first point of the day. It was not easy, however, as Caua Coimbra and Abladj Mondroha, along with Sato and Victor Peyrebonne extended their match-ups to a tiebreaker, falling 7-6 in Nos. 1 and 3 doubles, respectively.

Guerrout captured the Pirates' first point with a 6-3, 601 win in No. 5 singles and Cotti-Helme put Ventura ahead with a 6-4, 6-1 victory in the No. 6 singles match.

After Azusa Pacific evened the score with a win in the No. 1 slot, Sato again put VC ahead with a 7-5, 6-3 triumph in No. 2 singles. 

Unfortunately, APU captured the final two singles contests to prevail in a narrow 4-3 decision.

Ventura will have little time to recover as they will host Orange Coast on Tuesday Feb. 10 at 2:00pm.
