Pirate Student Athletes Prominent on Dean's Lists for 22-23

Ventura College student athletes excelled once again in the classroom in 2022-23, achieving an overall 3.29 grade point average in the fall and following that up with a 3.19 overall GPA in the spring semester.  A total of 108 Pirates achieved a 3.5 GPA or higher, earning mention on the Dean's List in the fall 2022 term while taking in 12 or more units of study, with 53 student athletes recording a perfect 4.0 GPA. In spring 2023, 110 VC student athletes were named on the Dean's List with 45 posting perfect GPA's.

Garza, McIntyre Named CCCMBCA All-State

VC men's basketball standouts Anthony Garza and Adrian McIntyre have been named first team All-State by the California Community College Men's Basketball Coaches Association for the 2022-23 season. Both sophomores, Garza, the 2023 Western State Conference Player of the Year, garners his first All-State award while McIntyre earns his second All-State nod for the Pirates.

Five Pirates Honored as All-WSC

Five members of the Pirates' men's basketball team have earned All-Western State Conference honors as voted upon by the conference coaches at a meeting following the regular season. Anthony Garza was named the Player of the Year for the WSC champions while Adrian McIntyre and Marcus Watson each earned first team All-WSC accolades. Kai Johnson and Daniel Crocker were named Honorable Mention All-WSC while VC head coach Joey Ramirez was named the conference Coach of the Year.

Ventura Falls in Heartbreaking Regional Final

Despite an outstanding team performance in which the Pirates' men's basketball left everything on the floor, Ventura dropped a heartbreaking 86-93 overtime decision at Citrus Saturday in the Southern California Regional Finals. VC's one-two punch of Marcus Watson and Adrian McIntyre recorded 30 and 29 points, respectively, to lead the way and Kai Johnson produced a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds. Tony Njia netted a dozen for Ventura (23-7) and Michael Noulowe had 10 points with seven boards.

Team Effort Produces "Sweet" Playoff Victory for Pirates

VC's Adrian McIntyre scored a team-high 18 points and six other Pirates netted between seven and 11 points each as the Ventura College men's basketball team advanced to the state "Sweet 16" with a 74-69 playoff victory over Santiago Canyon Saturday at the Athletic Event Center. Tony Njia came off the bench for 11 points and Marcus Watson recorded 10 points with six assists. Meanwhile Anthony Garza and Aaron Dawoodjee had nine points each while Daniel Crocker scored eight and Kai Johnson tallied seven with nine rebounds.

Men's Basketball Begins SoCal Playoffs Saturday

The VC men’s basketball team begins its 2023 post-season journey Saturday Feb. 25. The No. 7-seeded Pirates (22-6) host No. 10 Santiago Canyon (19-10), an 88-72 first round winner over No. 23/22 Chaffey, at 7:00 pm at the Athletic Event Center. Ventura enters the game on the heels of the program’s seventh straight Western State Conference North Division championship. Head coach Joey Ramirez, in his 12th year at the helm of the Pirates’ ship, recorded his 200th career victory at VC on Dec. 3, 2022.

Pirates Earn First Round Bye, Host Playoffs Saturday

Fresh off their seventh consecutive Western State Conference North Division championship, the Pirates' men's basketball team earned the No. 7 seed in the Southern California Regional Playoffs, receiving a first round bye. VC will host the winner of Wednesday's contest between No. 10 Santiago Canyon (18-10) and No. 22/23 Chaffey (19-9). Ventura's second round game will be Saturday Feb. 25 at 7:00 pm at the Athletic Event Center.

Pirates Claim 7th Consecutive WSC Title with Victory

The VC men's basketball team used an 11-2 run late in the first half to separate from the Hancock Bulldogs en route to a 74-52 victory in Santa Maria Friday. With the win, Ventura (22-6, 10-2) claims outright the program's seventh straight Western State Conference North Division Championship, Adrian McIntyre led four Pirates in double figures with 19 points and five steals while Anthony Garza netted 17 with six rebounds and five assists. Kai Johnson and Tony Njia each scored 12 points and Daniel Crocker pulled down 12 boards.

Men's Basketball Overmatches Santa Barbara

The Pirates' men's basketball team overmatched visiting Santa Barbara in their 85-55 victory Saturday at the Athletic Event Center. All 11 Pirates who played scored at least three points in the contest, led by Adrian McIntyre's 19. Kai Johnsopn came off the bench to score 16 with a team-best seven rebounds and Tony Njia scored 10 points. Landreau Tate and Marcus Watson each handed out three assists in the win for Ventura (21-6, 9-2).

Strong Second Half Propels Ventura Past Pierce

The VC men's basketball team used a strong second half to turn a one-point halftime deficit into a 14-point victory over Los Angeles Pierce Wednesday at the Athletic Event Center. Anthony Garza had a double-double of 23 points and 12 rebounds, Daniel Crocker totaled 19 points and Tony Njia came off the bench to score 18 to lead the Pirates to the 78-64 triumph. Garza also handed out five assists while Marcus Watson had three dimes with six steals and Michael Noulowe pulled in nine boards.

The Ventura College men's basketball team returned to the win column Saturday afternoon with a convincing 04-73 victory at Moorpark. Marcus Watson led the Pirates with 25 points and Adrian McIntyre topped out at 20 points with five assists. Anthony Garza scored 16 with nine rebounds and six dimes while Daniel Crocker posted a double-double of 16 points and 11 boards.VC (19-6, 7-2) now holds a 1/2 game lead over Hancock in the Western State Conference North standings.

VC Drops Heartbreaker at Cuesta in Final Seconds

The VC men's basketball team dropped a heartbreaker Wednesday, falling 71-70 at Cuesta on a Cougar 3-point shot with six seconds remaining. Anthony Garza led the charge for Ventura (18-6, 6-2) with 19 points and eight rebounds while Marcus Watson posted a double-double of 10 points and 10 boards to go along with six assists. Daniel Crocker totaled 15 points and Adrian McIntyre was the fourth Pirate in double-figures with 13.

Ventura Outlasts Oxnard in WSC North Victory

The VC men's basketball team outlasted visiting Oxnard Saturday, claiming a 94-88 triumph over the Condors in Western State Conference North Division play. Kai Johnson netted a career-best 27 points, Anthony Garza scored 25, and Daniel Crocker tallied 20 as Ventura (18-5, 6-1) went on a 12-5 run in the final 2:35 to preserve the victory. Garza flirted with a triple-double by adding 12 rebounds and seven assists to hit scoring total while Johnson added eight boards and six dimes.

Pirates Climb Back into First With Victory

The VC men's basketball team grabbed a share of the conference lead with an 88-69 win over Allan Hancock College Wednesday at the Athletic Event Center. Kai Johnson and Marcus Watson each dropped 20, Daniel Crocker scored 17 and Adrian McIntyre totaled 13 in the win over the Bulldogs. VC in now tied with Hancock atop the Western State Conference North with identical 5-1 league records through one round of play.

Pirate Men Down Santa Barbara in Road Win

The Pirates' men's basketball team used a 15-0 run early to break away from host Santa Barbara Wednesday in VC's 82-65 victory. Anthony Garza led four Pirates in double figures with 16 points and Daniel Crocker netted 13. Aaron Dawoodjee and Marcus Watson netted 14 and 12 points, respectively, while Kai Johnson added nine in the balanced effort for Ventura (16-5, 4-1).

Men's Basketball Rolls Past Brahmas

After trailing 10-8 early in the game, the Pirates' men's basketball team outscored host LA Pierce 40-10 over the final 15-plus of the first half, ultimately posting a 104-65 victory over the Brahmas in action Saturday in Woodland Hills. Anthony Garza led four Pirates in double-figures with 24 points and Marcus Watson netted 18. Kai Johnson and Kordell Gordon recorded 15 and 10 points, respectively, while Jeroe Bidlow scored nine off the bench for VC (15-5, 3-1).
