VC freshman defensive end Mark Zavala has been named the Southern California Football Association Defensive Player of the Week for the Northern Conference.
Zavala, a St. Bonaventure High School product from Oxnard, led the Pirates with six tackles, one for a loss, and recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown in No. 14 Ventura's 31-0 shutout win over No. 5 Fullerton Saturday night at the VC Sportsplex.
