Two Pirate Pairs Named Top Flight by AVCA

The Pirate beach volleyball team has two pairs who have earned the Top Flight Award presented by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Kayla Murdoch and Autumn Rojelio were honored in Flight 1 while Kylie Ibbotson and Alba Romanos Gracia earned the award in Flight 2. The pairs were among six community college level duos selected for the national award.

The Pirate beach volleyball pairs of Autumn Rojelio and Bryce Swain, along with Kylie Ibbotson and Alba Romanos Gracia each were named first team All-Western State Conference for the 2024 season. Rojelio and Swain were the runners up on the WSC Pairs Tournament in April while Ibbotson and Romanos Gracia placed sixth in the bracket play in Santa Monica.

Beach Volleyball Returns to Top of WSC

With a reworked line-up, the Ventura College beach volleyball team returned to the top of the Western State Conference standings Friday with a pair of victories at Santa Barbara's East Beach. VC gained a measure of retribution in the opener, defeating the host Vaqueros 3-2 after SBCC's win at Ventura on March 29. The Pirates then swept Glendale in the second match of the day to climb into the driver's seat in the conference race with two matches remaining.

VC Splits Pair at the Beach

The Pirates' beach volleyball team split a pair of Western State Conference matches Friday, defeating Moorpark 3-2 before falling to Santa Barbara 3-2 at the Ventura Harbor Cove Courts. Gracie Piro and Gabby Raines won a pair of matches at their No. 4 slot while Bryce Swain and Lily Hazzard posted two sweeps at No. 3 for Ventura (11-6, 5-1).

Beach VB Continues WSC Play With Two Wins

The VC beach volleyball team racked up two more wins Friday in Santa Monica, sweeping Moorpark 5-0 before defeating the host Corsairs 4-1. Bryce Swain and Lilly Hazzard recorded a pair of sweeps on the day while Alba Romanos Gracia and Kylie Ibbotson, Kayla Murdoch and Autuimn Rojelio, and Makena Schaumloeffel and Liz Schalde all swept one match and prevaile din three sets in another for Ventura (10-4, 4-0).

Pirates Open WSC Play With Two Sweeps

The VC beach volleyball team opened Western State Conference play Friday with sweeps over Cuesta and Glendale at the Harbor Cove Courts. The Pirates' No. 1 pair of Autumn Rojelio and Kayla Murdoch won by over 11-points per set and the No. 3 team of Bryce Swain and Lily Hazzard had a big win against Cuesta in the opener. the No. 2 pair of Alba Romanos Gracia and Kylie Ibbotson also won a pair of matches on the court for Ventura (8-4, 2-0).

The Pirates' beach volleyball team split a pair of matched Friday at El Camino College. Ventura dropped the opener against Rio Hondo 3-2 before coming back to defeat the hosts, 4-1. VC's ytop two pairs of Autumn Rojelio and Kayla Murdoch, and Alba Romanos Gracia and Kylie Ibbotson each won a pair of matches on the day.

Beach Volleyball Splits Pair in Long Beach

The Pirates' beach volleyball team split a pair of matches Wednesday in Long Beach. Ventura defeated San Diego Miramar 3-2 before falling to the hosts 5-0 in a match that was much closer than the final score indicates. Kalya Murdoch and Autumn Rojelio won their match against the Jets before dropping their match against LBCC in three sets. Makena Schaumloeffel and Liz Schalde had the same results on the day.

VC Takes Two in Huntington Beach

The Ventura College beach volleyball team returned to community college competition Thursday, winning a pair of matches in Huntington Beach. The Pirates (4-2) swept host Golden West 5-0 without dropping a set before defeating Cerritos 4-1. VC's No. 3 pair of Bryce Swain and Lily Hazzard gave up an average of 12.3 points per set in capturing a pair of victories.

Beach VB Battles Against NAIA Schools

The Pirates' beach volleyball team stepped up the competition Friday, traveling to Carlsbad to take on four-year NAIA schools Life Pacific and St. Katherine. Autumn Rojelio and Kayla Murdoch won their No. 1 match against Life Pacific, as did Alba Romanos Gracia and Kylie Ibbotson at No. 2 in VC's narrow 3-2 loss. VC also took three matches to a third and deciding set against St. Katherine before falling 5-0.

Beach Volleyball Opens With Sweeping Victories

The Pirates' beach volleyball team opened their 2024 campaign with a pair of 5-0 victories in Palm Desert. VC (2-0) defeated Fullerton without dropping a set before shutting out host College of the Desert, winning 10 of 11 sets against the Roadrunners. Kayla Murdoch and Autumn Rojelio, Bryce Swain and Lily Hazzard, and Gracie Piro and Liz Schalde all produced a pair of sweeps on the first day of the new season.
