VC Takes Two in Pool at Cuesta Invite

The Ventura College women's water polo team traveled to San Luis Obispo Friday, bringing home a pair of wins in the Cuesta College Central Coast Invitational. VC (4-1) scored three fourth-quarter goals to defeat Merced 10-7 before blasting Diablo Valley 17-5. Megan Findlay scored seven goals to lead the charge while Anna Lowe had six scores, four assists and three steals in the two games. Katie Falls had 23 saves in the cage on the day for the Pirates.

Ventura 10, Merced 7

The Pirates used a 3-0 final period to pull away from the Blue Devils in the opening game of the day. VC led 4-2 after one period and 7-5 at halftime before Merced scored twice in the third stanza and held Ventura scoreless to tie the game headed to the final eight minutes. Lowe netted goals at the 6:58 and 3:55 marks of the fourth quarter to put Ventura ahead. Findlay scored with 2:18 remaining to set the final margin.

Lowe led the offense with four goals and two assists and she had a pair of steals defensively. Findlay scored twice with an assist and three thefts while Fiona Watkins also recorded two scores. Lauren Mora scored a goal with two helpers and two steals and Sierra Cameron also found the net. Falls posted seven saves in the contest.

Ventura 17, Diablo Valley 5

Findlay had three goals and Lowe had a pair of scores as the Pirates raced to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter of play against the Vikings. The outcome wa set from that point, and the teams just needed the final score. Ventura outscored DVC 10-3 in the second half to set the final margin at 17-5.

Falls was golden in the cage with 16 saves and a pair of steals in the game. Findlay finished with five scores and an assist while Lowe scored twice with two assists and a steal. Mora found the back of the net three times with two steals and Emmie Johnston had a pair of gaols with an assist. Natalia Rodriguez recorded a goal with two helpers and two thefts while Kiran Shah handed out three assists with a pair of steals. Cameron, Isabel Tenison and Bryanna Soto also scored for the Pirates in the victory.

Ventura opens Western State Conference play on Wednesday Sept. 15 hosting Los Angeles Valley at 2:00 pm at the Ventura Aquatic Center.
