Ventura Has Strong Effort to Finish 3rd at WSC Tournament

Fresh off a victory in the win-or-go-home play-in game at Cuesta on Wednesday, the Pirates' women's water polo team had strong efforts Friday and Saturday to claim third place in the Western State Conference Tournament at Los Angeles Valley College in Valley Glen. VC pushed eventual champion Santa Barbara Friday in an 11-8 setback before defeating the hosts Saturday in a hard-fought 8-6 victory. Shayle Barrus once again anchored the VC defense from the cage with 25 saves over the two games.

The VC women's water polo sophomores were recognized before Wednesday's 17-3 victory over visiting Santa Monica, the Pirates' final home game of 2019.
Pirates Have Little Trouble With Santa Monica

The VC women's water polo team closed out their 2019 home schedule in style, easily defeating Santa Monica 17-3 at the Ventura Aquatic Center. The Pirate sophomores received recognition before their final home game in the orange and black before dismantling the Corsairs from the onset, led by Lauren Mora with four goals, an assist and two steals. Cali Iadevaia, Drew Reyes and Masiel Martinez all scored twice in the balanced Ventura attack.

VC freshman Leanna Ramirez had four goals, an assist, and two drawn exclusions in the Pirates 10-8 loss at Citrus College Wednesday.
Shorthanded Pirates Fall at Citrus

Playing without two regular starters, the Pirates women's water polo team narrowly dropped a 10-8 decision at Citrus College in Glendora on Wednesday.
