VC Water Polo Coach Wright Headed to World University Games

Ventura College women's water polo coach Linda Wright has been named to the coaching staff for USA Water Polo for the 30th Summer World University Games to be held July 3-14 in Naples, Italy. Wright, who served as the Pirates' Interim Head Coach this past season, will be a Team Manager for both the men's and women's teams participating in the bi-annual games.

Lipsky Leads Four Pirates as First Team All-WSC

Women's water polo utility player Raylynn Lipsky leads four Pirates on the first team All-Western State Conference team for the 2018 season. Lipsky, who also earned second team All-Southern California honors, is joined on the first team All-WSC list by goalie Shayle Barrus, center Cali Iadevaia and attacker Drew Reyes. Five other Pirates earned second team or honorable mention all-conference awards.

The Ventura College women's water polo team had their 2018 season come to an end with a 16-13 loss to Cypress in the first round of the SoCal Regional Tournament.
Ventura Falls in First Round of SoCal Regionals

The VC women's water polo team had its season come to an end Thursday in the first round of the SoCal Regional Tournament in Cerritos. Despite a strong effort, the No. 10-seeded Pirates fell to No. 7 Cypress 16-13. Cali Iadevaia led Ventura (14-13) with seven goals and an assist while Drew Reyes netted three scores and two helpers in the game.

Women's Water Polo Headed to the Post Season

The Ventura College women's water polo team has received an at-large bid to the CCCAA Southern California Regional Tournament. The Pirates (14-12) are seeded No. 10 in the 12-team draw, and will take on No. 7 Cypress (13-7) in first round action on Thursday Nov. 8 at 11:30 am at Cerritos College. The winner of Thursday's quarterfinal will take on No. 2 Santa Barbara on Friday at 11;30 am.

Women's Polo Falls in WSC Championship Game

For the 13th time in the past 17 years, the Pirates' women's water polo team played for the Western State Conference title. Saturday was not to be their day, however, as No. 3-seed Ventura fell to top-seeded Santa Barbara 16-7 in Santa Monica. Cali Iadevaia had four goals and Shaeleigh Russell scored twice for VC (14-12, 6-3). Raylynn Lipsky handed out two assists and grabbed a pair of steals on the day.

Pirates Defeat Cuesta to Advance to WSC Championship

The Pirates' women's water polo team had a three-goal run late in the third and early in the fourth periods and hung on down the stretch to defeat Cuesta 9-8 Friday in the semifinals of the Western State Conference Tournament in Santa Monica. Chloe Golden had a goal and three assists, including the go-ahead score in the third quarter, to lead the No. 3-seed Ventura (14-11, 6-2) past the No. 2-seeded Cougars.

Ventura Advances in WSC Tournament

The Ventura College women's water polo team advanced to the Western State Conference Tournament semifinals with a 16-4 quarterfinal victory over LA Pierce Wednesday at the Ventura Aquatic Center. Drew Reyes led the way with four goals and two assists while Elizabeth Arlington and Cali Iadevaia each scored three goals for VC (13-11, 5-2).

The Pirates' women's water polo team split their final two games of the Battle at the Beach at Cypress College Saturday. VC (12-11, 4-2) defeated Cerritos 10-4 in the morning game before faltering in the second half of a 13-8 loss to host Cypress. Raylynn Lipsky had four goals, six assists, five steals and a drawn exclusion in the two games while Shayne Naylor netted three scores with a pair of assists and two drawn exclusions.

The Pirates' women's water polo team split a pair of games Friday, the first day of the Battle at the Beach Tournament. Playing at Cerritos College, VC dropped a difficult 12-8 decision to Long Beach in the opener before rebounding for a 12-10 victory over Saddleback. Cali Iadevaia had a spectacular day with 10 goals, three steals and three drawn exclusions to lead Ventura (11-10, 4-2).

The Ventura College women's water polo team used a strong third quarter to defeat visiting Citrus College 9-7 Wednesday afternoon at the Ventura Aquatic Center. The victory wraps up the No. 3 seed for the Pirates (10-9, 4-2) in the upcoming Western State Conference tournament. Cali Iadevaia led VC with three goals while Drew Reyes and Annie Magno each scored twice.

The VC women's water polo team split a pair of Western State Conference games Saturday at the Ventura Aquatic Center, falling to Cuesta 10-6 in the first game before routing Los Angeles Pierce 18-4 in the nightcap. Drew Reyes and Raylynn Lipsky each scored four goals on the day while Shayle Barrus scored three goals and had four saves in goal in splitting time in the cage and in the field for the Pirates (9-9, 3-2).

Wrapping up the annual Ventura Tournament on Saturday, the VC women's water polo team defeated El Camino 14-2 before falling to Fullerton 14-5 at the Ventur Aquatic Center. Shayle Barrus scored five goals on the day with a pair of assists and two drawn exclusions, in addition to recording eight saves in three quarters of play in goal. Shayne Naylor had four scores in the two games for Ventura (8-8, 2-1) with a pair of assists and two drawn exclusions.

The Ventura College women's water polo team split a pair of games on the first day of the Ventura Tournament at the Ventura Aquatic Center on Friday. VC (7-7, 2-1) ran away from Santa Monica 17-4 in a Western State Conference match-up in the first game before falling to Mt. San Antonio 9-8 on a last-second goal by the Mounties in the nightcap. Drew Reyes had six goals, three assists, two steals and three drawn exclusions on the day to lead the Pirates.

Women's Water Polo Competes at San Diego Tournament

The Ventura College women's water polo team traveled to the San Diego Tournament hosted at Miramar College on Friday and Saturday, falling to some of the top programs in the state before finishing up the weekend with a 9-8 victory over Palomar College. Cali Iadevaia netted 11 scores over the four games and Shayle Barrus ended the run with 27 saves in the cage for VC (6-6, 1-1).

Pirates Push Defending State Champs in WSC Match Up

The Ventura College women's water polo team gave visiting Santa Barbara all they wanted on Wednesday afternoon. The Pirate trailed the defending state champions 8-7 at the end of three quarters before falling to the Vaqueros 14-10 at the Ventura Aquatic Center in the Western State Conference match up. Cali Iadevaia netted four goals to lead VC (5-3, 1-1) while Raylynn Lipsky scored three times. Chloe Golden had three assists and Shayle Barrus had eight saves in goal.

The current version of the Ventura College women's water polo team had an easy time with the VC alumnae Saturday, defeating the "Pirates of the Past" 11-4 at the Ventura Aquatic Center. Cali Iadevaia had six goals and an assist to lead Ventura (5-2) while Drew Reyes scored twice. Shayle Barrus had a goal, an assist and three steals in the field while stopping eight shots while playing goalie for the Pirates.
